A Place to Call Home for Complex Neurology Patients
South Jersey MS Center at Bromley Neurology offers cutting-edge treatment and a personalized approach.

by Matt Cosentino

WHEN HE FOUNDED THE SOUTH JERSEY MS CENTER AT BROMLEY NEUROLOGY IN 2015, Dr. Steven Bromley had a grand vision of bringing expert, personalized care to our region not only for multiple sclerosis but a wide range of neurological disorders. It was his mission to enrich the lives of patients whose ailments often leave them struggling to function on a daily basis as they deal with debilitating symptoms.

Six years later, it is safe to say that not even Dr. Bromley himself  could have envisioned his venture becoming so successful this quickly. Now consisting of five clinicians over three locations, it has blossomed into the largest private practice for neurology in South Jersey and earned a reputation for offering groundbreaking treatment for a variety of conditions.

Despite facing great demand for his services  and the challenges of leading a practice, Dr. Bromley continues to have a passion for the field and is committed to helping as many people as possible.

“I love my job and people tell me it shows,” he says. “I get very excited to take care of some of our complex patients and get to know them. You hear a lot these days about how doctors  get burned out and can’t handle the business aspect of medicine. But we have taken on these issues successfully, which translates into better care for our patients. It takes a dedicated and smart team to do it and that is exactly what we have.”

South Jersey MS Center, which accepts most insurances, specializes in neuroimmunology and the treatment of conditions that affect  both the nervous system and immune system. MS is a prime example in that the person’s own immune system attacks the brain, brain stem and spinal cord.

But even though MS is in the practice’s name and a large focus of its work, it is far from the only one.

“Our doctors hold multiple board certifications and we manage all kinds of complex neurological conditions,   from seizures to dementias, neurodegenerative disease, movement disorders,  migraines and neuropsychiatry,” Dr. Bromley says. “We are also proud to say that we are the doctors for other doctors, and the level of our care is respected in the medical community.”

Although Dr. Bromley has worked for large health care systems and his practice continues to have close ties with the surrounding institutions, South Jersey MS Center is able to offer the close personal attention that is sometimes hard to find in a busy hospital setting. His team can also  handle complex neurological conditions and welcomes patients who have been to three or four other practices and not received the help they need.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to create an office like this and a lot  of people are jumping on board because they see the unique and beneficial nature of a true medical center approach,” he says. “I think our outcomes are generally better than anyone else in the region when it comes to these patients. We have very low if any hospital days for our patients because we take care of all their acute and long-term needs within the center. We offer a full range of options and as opposed to the impersonal approach that regularly comes with these large institutions, we’re really close to our patients.”

South Jersey MS Center operates like an urgent care for patients who can stop in whenever they are having trouble. It also has one of the largest, state-of-the-art private South Jersey MS Center at Bromley Neurology offers cutting-edge treatment and a personalized approach. infusion suites in the state and can infuse anything from normal saline for hydration to vitamins for immune system support and a range of medications,  including the newest biologic immunotherapies.

“The idea that your own immune system is the enemy is problematic because you don’t want to treat it by destroying your immune system,” Dr. Bromley says. “The newest drugs are biologic in nature, which means they essentially are proteins just like we have in our own body. They’re monoclonal antibodies that target some specific aspect of your body, and then your own immune system kicks in and helps you along.”

The good news is that these cutting-edge treatments and everything else that South Jersey MS Center provides are still being offered during the pandemic.

“We are here to provide care and guidance for all  of our patients,” he says. “We’ve gone above and beyond when it comes to keeping our patients and our staff protected from COVID-19. We have implemented full-time use of PPE, aggressive sterilization procedures and routine use of telemedicine whenever possible. These kinds of things have allowed us to continue to not just survive but thrive during the pandemic. Several neurological practices have gone under in the South Jersey area so we’ve been taking on their patient population and will continue to help as many people as we can.”
