Five Tips for Choosing an Orthodontist
February 2020

by Matt Cosentino

THERE’S NO BETTER WAY TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION THAN WITH A BEAUTIFUL SMILE, but those with orthodontic issues often find it difficult to muster the confidence to flash their pearly whites. A reliable orthodontist like Ron Saffar, D.D.S., can help restore patients’ self-esteem and can provide life-changing results. We spoke to D r. Saffar about the important aspects to look for when choosing an orthodontist and how those traits have helped turn his practice, My Orthodontist, into a trusted source for patients all across the Garden State.

1. Education and Passion
The first thing to look for is an orthodontist with the right credentials and a staff that genuinely cares about patients’ oral health. D r. Saffar earned his dental degree and completed his specialty training in orthodontics at the prestigious New York University School of Dentistry and is a member of the American Dental Association and American Association of Orthodontists. He is proud to employ a staff of dedicated professionals who relish the opportunity to help people look and feel their best, from the orthodontists to the clinical assistants and technicians.

2. Convenient Locations and Friendly Staff
With most families facing demanding schedules on a daily basis, they don’t want to travel an hour each way for a doctor’s appointment. My Orthodontist has nine state-ofthe-art locations, including three in South Jersey in Cherry Hill, Medford and Deptford that offer ample parking and the latest technology. The staff is kept abreast of continuing education courses and is always courteous with its guests. “From the first interaction when patients call the office all the way until they leave after their appointment, we want it to be a positive, happy experience,” Dr. Saffar says.

3. Connection to the Community
When a medical professional gives back to the community it says a lot about his or her character, and My Orthodontist goes above and beyond in this regard. The practice partners with the Smiles Changes Lives nonprofit to provide one pro bono treatment per year at each of its nine locations for a patient in need of orthodontic care who is unable to afford it. My Orthodontist has also been active in causes such as the Special Olympics and Autism Speaks. “I’m a very firm believer in giving back to the community,” Dr. Saffar says. “We also support different athletic teams, schools and other local organizations in various fashions.”

4. Patient Rewards Hub
In addition to top-notch orthodontic treatment, some practices offer additional incentives. My Orthodontist teams up with Patient Rewards Hub, an app that serves as a positive reinforcement program and encourages patients to comply with their treatment. By taking care of their teeth and braces, they can earn points that lead to gift certificates at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Best Buy or other stores.

5. Multiple Treatment Options
It’s important to find an orthodontist who utilizes the latest technological advances in the field and has a wide variety of treatment options. My Orthodontist offers metal braces, ceramic braces, Invisalign and Invisalign Teen, as well as clear, removable retainers and bonded retainers. It also provides interceptive treatment for young children with early issues and performs surgical treatments such as corrective jaw surgery. “We treat orthodontic problems of all complexity and we see patients of all ages, literally from 7 years old all the way to 75,” D r. Saffar says. “We truly feel like we are helping people make a significant change. We know we’re making a positive impact on people’s lives and we’re happy and proud about that.”
