AS LITIGATION COSTS SKYROCKET, AND COURT BACK-LOGS GROW, INDIVIDUALS FACING FAMILY DISPUTES NEED A MORE COST-EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE TO LITIGATION. Family mediation provides an alternative for the parties, either with or without counsel, to meet with a trained mediator. The mediator serves as an independent neutral— assisting the parties in identifying disputes, discussing options and allowing parties to reach their own agreements. These agreements reflect what the parties believe are in their family’s best interests. The parties retain control over the process and are encouraged to consult with counsel to ensure complete understanding before the agreement is reduced to writing.
Archer embraces the concept of mediation with a family mediation practice headed by two highly regarded and experienced professionals, the Hon. Marie E. Lihotz (Ret.) and William J. Thompson, Esq.
Lihotz joined Archer after serving 20 years as a member of the New Jersey Judiciary, as the presiding judge of the Family Part in Burlington County and then as the presiding judge of Part B of the appellate division. She also led the Supreme Court’s family practice committee as its chair. A highly recognized jurist, Lihotz chaired and served on numerous Supreme Court committees, and authored over 120 published opinions.
Thompson has over 40 years of experience practicing all aspects of family law at Archer. He is recognized as an experienced and trained mediator throughout South Jersey. In his career, he served as editor of the New Jersey Family Lawyer, chair of the Camden County Bar Association Family Law Committee and chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association Family Law Section.
Whether it’s mediation or litigation, Archer is committed to the highest of professional standards. Notably, all six attorneys in the Archer Matrimonial Department are active members of the Thomas S. Forkin Family Law American Inn of Court, including two past presidents and the incoming president of the Inn. The American Inn of Court is a national organization dedicated to improving professionalism, civility and the ethical practice of law—values that are the foundation of Archer.
The attorneys at Archer handle matters throughout the state of New Jersey including divorce, custody/parenting time, child support, college contribution, alimony, relocation, adoption and domestic violence.
“The professional relationships and distinguished reputation that Archer has established allow us to better navigate what can often be a stressful and confusing system and process for our clients,” says Stephanie Zane, Esq. Archer recognizes every family is different and every case is different. This recognition allows each client to receive the individualized attention and representation they need to feel secure in making what are often very difficult decisions. This type of representation only comes with experience. “We are able to combine the skills of all our attorneys so that each client knows their case is being handled with the utmost care and professional excellence,” adds Drew Burach, Esq.
