Where Dogs are Champions
Champ’s Dog House provides a safe and loving environment to all dogs who are treated as “Champions”

by Julie Shannon

WHAT STARTED OUT AS A PLAYFUL CONVERSATION DISCUSSING JENNA QUINN’S PASSION FOR DOGS TURNED INT O A WILDLY SUCCESSFUL  BUSINESS FOR HER AND HER HUSBAND, Pat, known as Champ’s Dog House. Since they opened t heir daycare, boarding, training and grooming facility in Medford in 2015, they have expanded to a second facility in Marlton dedicated  to grooming and added mobile grooming last  year with their Champ’s K9 Party bus that conveniently serves Burlington County and surroun ding areas when your pup is in need of a trim or pampering.

They have won numerous awards in Burlington County in all their service are as, and it’s no surprise  given their commitment to serving every dog with the utmost care and making sure they are safe at all times. A fter all, Champ’s Dog House is named after their beloved dog, Champion, and they treat each and every dog that walks through their facili ty as a “Champion.”

Why did you two start Champ's Dog House? On our first date Pat asked me, “If you could do anything in the world, what  would it be?” I responded by tel ling him that I would want to pet dogs all day. We both laughed, but never forgot that  conversation. I n 2015, we decided to live our dream and open our full-service facility in Medford. Everything Pat and I do is for the love of dogs.  We lo ve  watching our puppies grow up and make it a priority to spend one-on-one time with our senior Champions. We love being able to give our  Champions a place to “be a dog” and meet their biological needs. W e are huge rescue advocates  so we love fostering dogs and helping re scu es place dogs in loving forever homes. Keeping dogs out of the shelter system is a big part of the “why” behind Champ's.

How did you c ome up with the name of the business? Our first dog together was the world’s most special dog, Champion. We were two college kids who wal ked into the Humane League of Lancaster and adopted the 8-year-old boxer. We loved him with everything we had and we miss him every day. He passed away at 12 years old from cancer and our business is in memory of him.

What types of services do you offer? We offer dog dayc are, boarding, grooming, training and mobile grooming.

Can you describe your in-home puppy training program? Our training is unique in th at we:

• only train puppies

• do in-home training so we can work with the  whole family and puppy in a more focused, comprehensive way

• offer off-leash training

• offer a course that develops your dog holistically versus just running your puppy through a quick curriculum— we look to develop a dog that truly responds and has life skills

Are you adding any new services in the future? We are excited to have launched our online puppy t raining course. The Champion Puppy Training System will now be training puppies from all over the country thro ugh interactive webinars, videos, handouts and in-person seminars. Follow us on social me dia as this little local family business “brings  it” to other puppy owners and other doggie daycares all over the country. We will leave a train of astoundingly cute puppy pictures.  We also have other things in the works that we are very excited to be actively working on and our future en- deavors will give our Cham pions an even b etter experience and their owners even more options.

How important is it to make your clients and their dogs feel safe a nd welcomed at Champ's Dog House? Dog safety and cu stomer service are absolutely our first priority. To ensure safety, our Champions are s creened before being supervised in the yard. When a Champion comes in for their first day of daycare, we keep the owner updated on how t hey are doing. We build relationships with all of our clients and keep them posted if we see any changes in their dogs play style or beha vior as time goes on.

What sets Champ's Dog House apart from the rest? We are not just “dog people”—we love people, too. As owners we truly value and appreciate our team. Our employees’ growth and success is a major focus of ours. We love our customers and take time to build relationships with them. We know we have the greatest job in the world and we enjoy making people from around the country smile by posting our Champions photos on Facebook every single day. This also allows our customer s to see a bit of their Champion in action and we  really enjoy doing it.
