BISHOP EUSTACE CRUSADERS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Junior Ania Krawiec was 13-3 at No. 1 singles during the regular seaon. Senior Erika Reagan was 13-2 at No. 2 singles, while junior Sara Sperling won six matches at No. 3 singles. Seniors Krista and Melissa Morgano were 15-0-1 at No. 1 doubles, and senior Nicole Filipek was 12-2 at No. 2 doubles.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Nobody in the division. The Crusaders are the clear favorite to defend their division title.

OUTLOOK: With six veterans back from a 17-1 team, the Crusaders should be just as strong this year. Eustace should find itself in any preseason top-10 South Jersey poll, possibly in one of the top five slots.

CHEROKEE CHIEFS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior Alex Zeuli played third singles last year. Junior Danielle Bernero and senior Simone Pereria-Barboza were at No. 1 doubles. Three juniors who saw time at No. 2 doubles were Cassidy Iarussi, Allison Ebner and Taylor Childers.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Defending Olympic Conference American Division champion Cherry Hill East remains the favorite.

OUTLOOK: The Chiefs won five matches last season and, with their difficult schedule and relative inexperience, would do well to match that total this season.

CHERRY HILL EAST COUGARS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior Jamie Silverberg is among the top players in South Jersey. She was 32-3 at No. 1 singles last season, and already has 101 career wins. Other veterans back are junior Nikita Shukla, who played No. 1 doubles, junior Amanda Elfman (No. 3 singles) along with junior Paige Leone and senior Allie Haaz, who teamed at No. 2 doubles.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: East is the defending Olympic American champ and will be a favorite to repeat, although South Jersey Group 4 finalist Eastern bears watching.

OUTLOOK: After a 20-3 season, East saw the year end with a 4-1 loss to Mainland in the South Jersey Group 4 semifinal. East has the ability to succeed this season in Group 4 and to improve its win total.

CHERRY HILL WEST LIONS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Michelle Nguyen was the No. 2 singles player last year. Senior Kandace Chambers played first doubles last year and could be in the mix for a singles position. Junior Bansili Desai was a doubles player who will contend for a singles spot. Junior Patricia Sittikul was a competitor on JV and varsity who looks to help this year.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Shawnee remains the team to beat in the Olympic Conference Patriot Division. West finished second to Shawnee last year.

OUTLOOK: The Lions lost a number of seniors but should remain competitive, especially with Nguyen leading the way after gaining valuable experience a year ago.

GLOUCESTER CATHOLIC RAMS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Junior Jenna Fratterelli has been at No. 1 singles her first two years, and is a co-captain. Senior Francesca Romeo returns, and is likely to play No. 2 singles. She is also a co-captain. A key letter winner is Gabrielle Sclocchini, while junior Julieann Justice is among the top newcomers.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: The three division champs in the Tri-County Conference were Clearview, Woodstown and Pennsville, and all three should again have highly competitive teams.

OUTLOOK: The Rams went 10-6 last season—and with Fratterelli and Romeo leading the way, getting double figures in wins again this year is a realistic goal.

HADDONFIELD BULLDOGS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Junior Taylor Ng is the two-time South Jersey Player of the Year by the South Jersey Tennis Coaches Association. She was 39-4 last year at No. 1 singles. Senior Catherine Senopoulos was 37-2 at No. 1 doubles. Rebecca Senopoulos, her twin sister, was 32-1 at No. 2 doubles. Younger sister Rosalind Senopoulos is a freshman and newcomer to watch. Sophomore Victoria Martinez was 34-1 at No. 2 doubles. Sophomores Amanda Lanciano and Erica Pascocella saw sufficient action, going 16-1 and 14-0 respectively last year at singles and doubles.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Nobody.

OUTLOOK: Haddonfield has won two straight state Group 2 titles, and the components are there for a three-peat.

LENAPE INDIANS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior Morgan Elam was second-team all-conference, compiling an 18-6 record at No. 3 singles last year. It was her first season playing singles. Sophomore Melissa Olt played second doubles. Returning letter winners include senior Joanna Ma and junior Joy Chen, Sarah Muccilli and Sonal Gragani.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Cherry Hill East, the favorite in the Olympic American division.

OUTLOOK: Despite graduating five seniors, Lenape has some outstanding performers on the JV squad, so the Indians should again be competitive and are capable of producing a winning record.

MOORESTOWN QUAKERS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Emma Allen and Breezy Maravich are returning first-team all-conference singles performers from a 22-4 team. Shelby Burke (pictured) is also a returning starter at singles. Returning doubles players Kelsey Ham and Lauren Culbertson could be vying for singles spots. Among the other key returnees are Sarah Kim, Rachel Bass, Kelly Hopkins and Amanda Zajac.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Nobody in the Burlington County Liberty Division. Only Haddonfield may begin the season ranked higher than the Quakers in South Jersey.

OUTLOOK: Under coach Bill Kingston (694-75), the Quakers have won 12 state titles and 26 South Jersey championships, including one each season since 1989. That streak should remain intact, and the Quakers could make a run at a state title as well.

MOORESTOWN FRIENDS FOXES

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior Amanda Connell was 15-8 at No. 1 singles. Senior Madi Toarmina was 12-6 at No. 2 singles and junior Lauren Carney was 13-5 at No. 3 singles. Also back are the first doubles team of junior Claire Langlotz and Sammy Chen, who were 15-6, and the second doubles unit of senior Lauren Joffe and Kate Hollenborg, who were 11-5. Junior Logan Horn returns after seeing action at second doubles. In addition, freshman Katie Teitelbaum is expected to compete for a starting spot on this veteran team.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Shipley and Friends Central are the favorites in the highly competitive Friends League.

OUTLOOK: With the entire team back from last year’s 14-4 lineup, which advanced to the South Jersey Non-Public B finals, Moorestown Friends will have a real shot at the sectional crown.

PAUL VI EAGLES

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Among the veterans are senior Kayla Whittle and juniors Kaitlin McCaffrey, Nicole Corcoran, Jenna Wolfson and Kathleen Martorelli.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Bishop Eustace remains the top class in the division.

OUTLOOK : At press time, the Eagles were looking for a new coach so there will be major adjustments to make in order to remain competitive.

SENECA GOLDEN EAGLES

PLAYERS TO WATCH: The Golden Eagles have an extremely impressive sophomore class. Among the sophomores are Alexandria Felt, who was at second singles last year; Amanda Ritter at third singles; Jordan Meyer at first doubles and Angela Errigo at second doubles. In addition, junior Jaden Tyrell returns after competing in first doubles last year. Other returning letter winners include sophomores Leah Dinsmore and Michaela Keating, and junior Karina Hinz.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Bishop Eustace’s Crusaders will be the favorite.

OUTLOOK: After going 6-2 in division play, the Golden Eagles have the ability to equal or surpass last year’s mark. Felt and Ritter have been improving in the off-season by playing in tournaments, according to coach Sue Johnson.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP MINUTEMAIDS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior Janel Eldridge is expected to be the No. 1 singles player for the third consecutive year. Senior April Basat and junior Ave Parragio also played varsity singles last year. Senior Christine Ciocco saw action at doubles. Returning letter winners include juniors Victoria Tran and Mary Lloyd, who both played doubles.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Cherry Hill East, Eastern and Cherokee. This might be the strongest division in South Jersey.

OUTLOOK: The Minutemaids can’t be discounted in the conference, but they won’t be the favorites either. Still, they could improve on their 12-win total from last year. With an experienced team, they could also provide top competition in the South Jersey Group 4 tournament.
