More than 40 years ago, Larry Mutschler sought a way to feed the family horses less expensively without sacrificing their nutrition. He soon found himself selling horse feed and other Purina brands from a trailer at his gas station before opening his first official store in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1981—which is how Concord Pet Food & Supplies was born.
Today, Mutschler’s children, Lindsay and Larry Jr., help oversee the family-run business, which has grown to include five New Jersey locations, plus 28 more serving pet lovers throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware. Each store offers a wide variety of the most in-demand food and products for cats and dogs, as well as an array of supplies for small animals, fish, reptiles and wild birds. And, in a nod to our roots, some of those locations even sell products for horses, too.
But we know that caring for our furry, feathered, finned and four-legged friends is more about having the right products: It’s about having access to needed services and educational information. Concord provides access to low-cost vaccination clinics, while our Mount Laurel location offers an in-store, do-it-yourself dog washing service, complete with shampoo (don’t forget to bring your own towels). Additionally, our website provides checklists so every puppy or kitten owner is prepared to provide for the newest member of their family right from the start.
Our staff is well-trained to be leaders in pet-care knowledge. Service is also key: We encourage our employees to carry products right to customers’ cars and help them with any other needs they may have. We pride ourselves on our customer service because, as a retail business, making sure every customer has a great experience when shopping with us is paramount.
