Gwynedd Mercy University
Mercy Makes the Difference

by Staff

At Gwynedd Mercy University, you’ll see and be seen, hear and be heard, know and be known. That’s because GMercyU is large enough to offer the academic, athletic and real-world learning you’re looking for, but small enough that professors know you by name.

Everything GMercyU does is inspired by its mercy mission and core values of integrity, respect, service and social justice. These values are integrated into every one of 30-plus undergraduate majors and minors, so that all of our graduates are ready to do well and do good as professional and global citizens.

Here, you will find a caring and supportive environment and a deep commitment to making a difference—for ourselves and for others.

The Griffin Edge
Did you know that 97% of recent GMercyU graduates were employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation, according to a 2021 survey?

That’s because a GMercyU education—and all of the experiences that come along with it—helps our graduates carry forth the values they learn in the classroom as future leaders in boardrooms, hospital rooms, classrooms and other organizations all over the world.

As a GMercyU undergrad, you will participate in a personalized program called The Griffin Edge. Built on the 5 E’s—Excellence, Engagement, Experience, Empathy and Encouragement—the Griffin Edge is designed to help you customize your education so you get the most out of your college experience.

From your very first semester, you’ll develop valuable skills of self-reflection to help you become thoughtful about your work, your purpose and your future. With a special focus on service and social justice, you will hone your ability to reflect on what you’re doing and how it can set you up for success in the future.

Throughout your college journey, you’ll be challenged in the classroom academically, but you’ll also take part in real-world experiences and service opportunities—whether through internships, research, student teaching, clinicals or Alternative Spring Break service trips. You might sharpen your leadership skills as part of our Griffin Student Leadership Institute, or build your teamwork skills as a student-athlete in one of our 19 NCAA Division III athletic teams, or as part of one of our many clubs and organizations.

At GMercyU, you’ll also find plenty of support when you need it. In addition to faculty who will feel more like mentors, you can take advantage of advising, workshops, counseling and even one-on-one tutoring, all at no additional cost.

Meet Sam Brown, ’20

Nursing Graduate, Lacrosse & Soccer Player

Washington Township High School, Turnersville, New Jersey

After graduating from GMercyU in 2020, Sam has been working at Cooper University Hospital and is a substitute school nurse in the Washington Township School District.

At GMercyU, Sam …

  • Was a four-year member of the women’s lacrosse team
  • Played on the women’s soccer team for two years
  • Became a member of the National Honor Society
  • Served as a member of the Spanish Club, Renaissance Club and PAWS Club
  • Completed clinicals at a variety of local health institutions, including St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Doylestown Hospital and Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park

“My favorite part of GMercyU was the amazing friends I made and still talk to today. I will never forget the memories made between sports and academics. I felt as though I was exposed to a lot of different scenarios in my clinical experiences that prepared me for my job. The small clinical group sizes allowed a lot of time for supervised experiences.”

Meet Joseph Pandolfi ’19

Biology Graduate, Lacrosse Player

Washington Township High School, Turnersville, New Jersey

After graduating from GMercyU, Joe worked at an urgent care facility as a medical assistant, then continued onto graduate school in the physician assistant program at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

At GMercyU, Joe…

  • Bettered his study skills with help from a peer mentor
  • As a senior, became a peer mentor himself to give back in the same way
  • Participated in ethical debates related to medicine
  • Conducted research in search of antibiotic-resistant bacteria
  • Completed a thesis as an undergraduate student
  • Found a “second family” in his GMercyU lacrosse teammates and coach

“Being a student-athlete made me mentally tough. The pressure of keeping my grades up while completing on the field every day builds character and work ethic. After I graduated and began working, I noticed that the rigor of being a student-athlete prepared me for the stress that comes with long workdays. I am forever grateful that I had the opportunity to be a student-athlete in college and had an amazing set of teammates throughout my four years. I still talk to my teammates that I graduated with.”
