The Best of Paul VI
Emerging from the pandemic, Paul VI is forging ahead, with new “bests” to celebrate! Here are a few of which the school is especially proud.

by Staff

Best Open House EVER! - After a long and quiet hiatus from in-person events, the Paul VI family came roaring back with a record setting event, featuring more demonstrations, more performances and more visitors than ever before. The masks were on … but the enthusiasm was contagious!

Best Girls Volleyball Team - No exaggeration here! The Paul VI girls volleyball team recently won the State Championship for Non-Public A. With a record of 28-3, the girls proved the only thing brighter than their home court’s new floor, is their blindingly competitive level of play.

Best COVID-proof Spring Musical - Through a small miracle of the calendar, Paul VI managed to perform Into the Woods before the 2020 shutdown, rolled out a limited seating but sterling version of Beauty and the Beast in spring of 2021 and is poised to dazzle again with Cinderella this spring for 2022. The only thing more magical than the unbroken performance record might be the fairy tale themes.

Best Addition to the Scholarship Line-up – For the first time in school history, Paul VI is offering eighth graders entering high school the opportunity for scholarships in the musical fields of band, choir and strings. Scholarships are for $1,000 each and are renewable for each year of high school. For more information about the Paul VI music scholarships, please visit the website, www.pvihs.org/admissions/scholarships.

Best New Use of a CPR Dummy – The biomedical science course, a segment of the Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science module, debuted at Paul VI this fall. Among the tools used to provide students with a near real-world experience in forensic science is a CPR dummy to stand in as the victim whose murder the students must scientifically investigate. The subject’s official name—Anna Garcia—is provided by PLTW; the subject’s officially messy wig is courtesy of teacher Samantha Sullivan’s Halloween box.

Best Cookies – A staple of the Paul VI Dining Hall, the school’s chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter and sugar cookies are the subject of intense rivalry and heated debate with, well, any other school that has cookies at lunchtime. The major point of the Paul VI argument? We present the M&M loaded, chocolate chip-laden CARNIVAL COOKIE. We rest our case.
