Dental Care During COVID
We check in with local doctors on how their specialty is doing nearly a year after the pandemic began.

by Liz Hunter

How are patients feeling, in general, about check-ups during COVID?
Our patients have full confidence that going to the dentist office is a safe experience. They know that we have put in place the proper protocols recommended by  the Centers for Disease Control and  Prevention and New Jersey Department  of Health to keep them safe. Generally speaking, our patients have had no issues coming to see us since reopening our doors in June.

What extra measures should patients be looking for at the dentist during this time?
Dentists have always been trained to “treat everyone as if they are infectious,” so we have managed to keep infection rates within  our offices very low. Regarding our patients, they can expect relatively empty waiting rooms, temperature checks, contactless check-in, sanitizer readily available and room air ionizers.

Have parents been able to attend appointments with their child during the pandemic?
Only parents who physically need to be with their child are allowed. Once you arrive we provide you with a COVID form and take your temperature. You may return to your vehicle or be asked to proceed forward. Only the patient will be allowed  to enter. This helps protect both patients and staff. Every patient receives a report card that describes their visit and future  visit. We encourage parents to call with questions. If we all do our part, we will beat COVID.

How well have virtual appointments worked for orthodontic patients?
Virtual visits are now a normal part of our treatment plan. We perform initial consultations and review treatment progress virtually. The use of virtual technology minimizes the number of times each patient physically visits our office, saving them time. In the end, it’s all about blending in-person and virtual technologies to create awesome smiles faster, easier and more safely.
