BISHOP EUSTACE CRUSADERS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Bishop Eustace graduated a stellar senior class in 2019 but still has a strong core to build around, including a junior transfer who is one of the best pitchers in the area. Anthony Solometo, a North Carolina commit, went 5-2 with a 1.59 ERA and 64 strikeouts as a sophomore at Gloucester Catholic on his way to all-conference first-team and all-South Jersey second-team accolades. He will have to sit out the first 30 days of the season per transfer rules, but once he becomes eligible he will provide a major boost for the Crusaders. Leading the returners is senior pitcher/third baseman Charlie Sanzio, an all-conference first-team selection who has committed to St. John’s University. He went 4-1 with a 1.75 ERA and 58 strikeouts on the mound and batted .303 with 10 doubles and 24 RBIs. Two senior outfielders are key pieces of the lineup. Eric Sabato, an all-conference second-teamer, hit .370 with 11 doubles, 27 runs and 24 RBIs, while Nick Senior, a St. Joseph’s commit, had a .373 average with 24 runs. Senior second baseman Chase Conklin, who will continue his career at Richmond, is another returning starter. Senior outfielder Joey Pence, a transfer from Lenape who has committed to Lafayette, is a promising newcomer in the lineup. Junior Tyler Griswold joins Solometo and Sanzio as a top starting pitcher and junior Joe Mascio is another experienced pitcher.
OUTLOOK: The Crusaders’ 21-7-1 season included the Olympic Conference National Division championship, a berth in the Diamond Classic semifinals and a trip to the sectional quarterfinals. They have the pitching and bats to remain contenders.

CAMDEN CATHOLIC FIGHTING IRISH
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior Darren Parker returns as the ace of Camden Catholic’s pitching staff and he is also an important piece of the lineup. Parker is poised for a big final season before continuing his career at the University of the Sciences. Seniors Henry Daverso and Tim Sawn are table setters at the top of the order and senior Colin Hughes provides a big bat in the middle of the lineup. Eric Cunning is another veteran who will get at-bats and contribute on the mound, and Sawn is an experienced pitcher as well. Other players hoping to make an impact are seniors Austin Granroth and Chris Prisco and junior Liam O’Connor.
OUTLOOK: The Fighting Irish played well down the stretch last year before bowing out in the first round of the playoffs and finishing with a 7-14 record. They hope to make progress as a program this spring.

CHEROKEE CHIEFS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Cherokee is paced by a strong pitching staff that includes its top two hurlers from last year: seniors Jake Prince and Andy Walters. Prince had two wins and a 2.54 ERA on his way to earning all- conference second-team honors, and has committed to Stevens Institute of Technology. Walters posted a 2.29 ERA and had five wins. Junior Tyler Lender will most likely move into a starting role after serving as the closer last year and picking up three saves. Unfortunately, junior left-handed pitcher Blake Morgan, an Old Dominion recruit, tore an ACL in basketball and will miss the season. Prince, who also plays second base, leads the way offensively as well, as he batted .328 with team highs in walks and RBIs. Senior outfielder Zach Bernard, a four-year starter who will continue his career at Iona, is another crucial piece of the lineup, assuming he recovers from his torn ACL from July. He led the Chiefs in hits last year. Walters contributes in the infield when he isn’t pitching, and other senior infielders are Anthony Schooley (a Villanova recruit and returning captain) and Christian Rinick (an Eastern University commit). Lender and junior Chris Bonafiglia are experienced outfielders, senior Tyler Gorecki saw some time at first base last year and senior Matt Borucki will be looking to take over as the starting catcher.
OUTLOOK: Cherokee was just 6-12 entering the postseason last year but made an exciting run to the sectional semifinals and finished with a 9-13 record. With a lot of key players back in the fold, the Chiefs should build on that experience and contend for a winning record in 2020.

CHERRY HILL EAST COUGARS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Cherry Hill East graduated a stellar senior class and will have a much different look this spring. Junior catcher/outfielder Hunter Wieland and senior third baseman Dan Zimba both ended the 2019 season as starters and will be key players in the lineup. Wieland had a .381 on-base percentage and Zimba hit .333. Junior Josh Manders is another top returner who will contribute at first base and on the mound, and junior Lin Asari will also look to help the pitching staff. Senior outfielder Matt Sulpizio is expected to take on a bigger role and other possible starters are senior infielder Mike Bowe, senior first baseman Robert Schweitzer, senior outfielder Nick Lopez, junior shortstop Noah Stoffman and junior catcher Riley Snell.
OUTLOOK: The Cougars are coming off a memorable season in which they went 18-4 and captured the Olympic Conference American Division title for the first time since 2002. They also earned their first playoff win in five years and reached the sectional final. It will be difficult to reach that level of success again in 2020, but the program is clearly headed in the right direction.

CHERRY HILL WEST LIONS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Although Cherry Hill West said good- bye to a special senior class, there is still a solid core returning from last year’s sectional championship team. Leading the way are seniors Ryan West and Danny Berckman, both three-year starters and all-conference first-teamers. West, an outfielder who is committed to West Chester, hit .429 with 13 extra-base hits and 28 RBIs. Berckman, a shortstop who will continue his career at Frostburg State, batted .371 and drove in 21 runs. Senior catcher Nick Sylvester is another top returner who starred in the sectional semifinals and finished with a .465 batting average and 17 RBIs, and senior third baseman Frank Ebling, a Gwynedd-Mercy recruit, is also a returning starter. Senior catcher/first baseman Blaise Fiola, an all-conference player as a sophomore, is back after missing last year with an injury and is expected to hit in the middle of the lineup. The pitching staff was hit hard by graduation but does bring back seniors Nick Heubel and Sean Morgan, who are committed to Bloomsburg and Caldwell, respectively. Junior hurlers Blake Mitnick and Brandon Chorzelewski will also be counted on.
OUTLOOK: Last season was an unforgettable one for the Lions, who went 25-4-1 and claimed the South Jersey Group III championship for their first sectional crown since 1993. Although they have some holes to fill, they expect to contend and make it back to the sectional final for the third year in a row.

CLEARVIEW PIONEERS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Jake Cubbler emerged as Clearview’s ace pitcher during his junior season and is primed for a big senior campaign before continuing his career at South Carolina Upstate. He notched impressive wins over St. Augustine and Glassboro on his way to all-conference second-team honors. Junior lefty Julian Costa is another key returner on the pitching staff and senior Nick Rector is also expected to eat some innings. The lineup is led by junior outfielder Ian Petrutz, who has started since his freshman year and has already committed to Maryland. He led the team in RBIs as a sophomore. Junior second baseman Cole Fowler and senior catcher Alex Gioia are other returning starters and junior Adam McEvoy is another experienced catcher. Senior Carmen Rizzo will vie for a spot in the infield.
OUTLOOK: The Pioneers’ 14-7 final record in 2019 included an 8-1 mark down the stretch, a playoff victory and notable wins over St. Augustine, Bishop Eustace, Triton and Williamstown. They will look to ride that momentum into 2020 under new head coach Derrick Reagan, who replaces Rolando Gautier in the dugout and is excited to take over the program.

EASTERN VIKINGS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Although Eastern graduated some of its best hitters, it is happy to welcome back a strong pitching staff led by its top two hurlers from last spring. Senior Cole Boyan is the ace, as he went 6-2—with one of the losses coming on a gem in the Group IV state final—on his way to all-conference first-team and all-South Jersey second-team honors. He also posted a 1.81 ERA. Senior Sam Portnoy, who also plays first base, earned the win in the sectional final and joined Boyan on the all-conference first team after going 7-3 with a 2.14 ERA. Senior Isaac Beebe (3-1, 3.50 ERA) is another veteran pitcher and junior Andrew Tofolo could be ready for a bigger role as well. Senior outfielders Nick Zellner and Teddy Moos will be key pieces of the lineup and senior Cole Regn is an experienced player in the infield. Sophomore catcher/outfielder Mike Bonomo had some big hits in the playoffs and could be a fixture in the order for the next few years.
OUTLOOK: The Vikings made a magical run to their first sectional title since 2014 and came up just short of a state championship, dropping a 2-1 game to Ridgewood in the final to finish with a 23-9 record. If the offense develops to go with the pitching, this will be another successful season.

GLOUCESTER CATHOLIC RAMS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Gloucester Catholic suffered a big loss when ace pitcher Anthony Solometo transferred to Bishop Eustace, but the Rams still have a talented and deep rotation. Seniors Tyler Parks and Mike Racobaldo are key pitchers who are headed to Division I college programs. Parks is committed to UNC-Charlotte and Racobaldo, an all-conference first-teamer, will continue his career at Iona. Jack Stewart, a University of the Sciences recruit, and Will Bell are other seniors who will contribute to the pitching staff. The lineup graduated most of its major run producers but does return leadoff hitter Ryan Nutley, a senior shortstop who posted a .490 on-base percentage and is committed to La Salle. Senior outfielder Greg Iannelli (.395 average, 23 runs, 16 RBIs) will be a key hitter in the middle of the order and senior Tyler Shinn is a three-year starter behind the plate. Senior Iverson Hernandez is an experienced infielder.
OUTLOOK: The Rams went 20-6 with their third straight sectional title and fell in the Non-Public B state final in their final season under coach Adam Tussey, who stepped down in the fall after four years at the helm. They expect to continue playing at a high level under renowned skipper Dennis Barth, who won 485 games and nine state titles as Gloucester Catholic’s coach from 1994-2012. He is back with the program after seven successful seasons at Rutgers-Camden.

HADDONFIELD BULLDAWGS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: All-conference first-team selections Alex Kadar and Chris Mariani are back to lead Haddonfield. Kadar, a senior outfielder, batted .394 with eight doubles, 27 runs and 19 RBIs last year. Mariani, a senior catcher who is committed to Iona, hit .361 with two home runs and was second on the team with 26 RBIs. Junior second baseman Matt Stamm is a key hitter at the top of the lineup and senior Ryan Lynch is an experienced outfielder. The pitching staff suffered big losses to graduation, but has a pair of promising returners in seniors Jakob Slimbock and Aidan Barr. Justin Kasko and Marc LaProcido are junior hurlers expected to contribute, and other veterans hoping to have an impact are senior infielder John Maynes and senior outfielder Jack Narducci.
OUTLOOK: The Bulldawgs’ 22-4 season included berths in the Diamond Classic and sectional championship games and a division title. They should remain competitive if the pitching develops.

KINGSWAY DRAGONS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Kingsway has a pair of talented juniors to build around in outfielder Ben Maiers and infielder/pitcher Justin Szestowicki. Maiers is coming off a breakout sophomore season in which he batted .373 with nine doubles and 19 RBIs. Szestowicki, who has committed to North Carolina, belted four home runs and posted a 1.83 ERA with three saves. Third baseman/pitcher Ethan Burbage is another junior standout who will continue his career at the Division I level at Old Dominion. Senior TJ Snyder, an Ursinus recruit, went 3-0 with a 0.48 ERA last year and leads the pitching staff along with senior Tyler Szilagyi, a Stockton commit. Other contributors include senior catcher/pitcher Jake Herner, senior outfielders Pablo Ortiz and Andrew Bott and senior first baseman/pitcher Chris Evans.
OUTLOOK: The Dragons’ successful 2019 campaign featured their first Tri-County Conference Royal Division title since 2002 and a 15-8 final record. They have a chance to be division contenders again this spring.

LENAPE INDIANS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Lenape graduated all three of its all-conference players but still has a solid core returning. The pitching staff is led by senior righthander Ian Conroy, an Ursinus commit, and junior lefty Kyle Mulville, who both logged significant innings in 2019. Other hurlers expected to contribute are seniors Joey Anastasio and Alex Rimerman, who will continue his career at Swarthmore. Senior outfielder Zahan Meyer, a Manhattan recruit, is a key piece of the lineup along with junior shortstop Nick Garagozzo (.309 batting average) and junior outfielder Tyler Davis (.360). Senior infielders Bryce Keller and Edwin Gonzalez will play college baseball at Elizabethtown and Rowan College of Burlington County, respectively. Other experienced veterans are senior catcher Jake Silver, junior outfielder Jason Wasko and junior third baseman/pitcher Nick Farr.
OUTLOOK: The Indians went 12-9 with a playoff appearance in the final season for Phil Fiore, who retired as head coach after 12 successful years at the helm. Former assistant Mike Wasienko has taken over and will look to continue Lenape’s winning tradition.

MOORESTOWN QUAKERS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Excitement is high at Moorestown, which brings back six starters and several top pitchers. The middle of the infield is strong with junior second baseman Wyatt Atkinson (.288 average, 19 RBIs) and sophomore shortstop Max Martin, who was selected to the Carpenter Cup as a freshman and has already committed to Rutgers. Seniors Adam Robinson (.310) and Robert Damerjian (.296) are returning starters in the outfield, while senior Nate Mendys is another veteran outfielder and junior Nick Yedman is back as the starting catcher. Senior Evan Francisco figures to be the ace of a pitching staff that also includes sophomore Jesse Specter and junior Evan Buckley, along with Atkinson and Robinson. Junior Eric Schmoll and seniors Joel Pederson, Zach Boren and Tyler Mead will be vying for playing time as well.
OUTLOOK: The Quakers went 14-8—their most wins in a season since 2014—while competing in the Diamond Classic and reach- ing the sectional quarterfinals last spring. With most of the roster returning, this is shaping up as another successful campaign as new head coach Mike Appalucci takes over the program.

MOORESTOWN FRIENDS FOXES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Junior catcher John Limjoco and senior second baseman Calvin Bell are two key veterans for Moorestown Friends. Limjoco had a .357 batting average and scored 13 runs last year, while Bell hit .320. Shortstop Mark Johnson and infielders Alex Boller and Monit Patel are other seniors returning to the starting lineup. Sophomore third baseman Connor Hull earned a starting job as a rookie and other contributors are senior infielder Will Locascio and senior outfielder Jackson Fox. Johnson is the top returning pitcher and other hurlers are junior Harry Kelly, Limjoco and Hull.
OUTLOOK: The Foxes always seem to field a competitive squad and will look to improve on last year’s 8-9 record by a few wins.

PAUL VI EAGLES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Paul VI has high expectations after graduating just one senior from last year’s team. Five all-conference second-team selections are back, including junior Ryan Rumsey, who can play both corner infield spots, the outfield and also pitches. He hit .338 with five doubles and two home runs and has committed to Xavier. Senior shortstop Jimmy Bruno (.345, 20 runs), senior outfielder Ryan Donnelly (.328) and senior outfielder AJ Tropiano (seven doubles, 20 runs) are other everyday players who made the all-conference team. Donnelly is headed to Immaculata and Tropiano will continue his career at Rowan College of Burlington County. Other returning starters are senior outfielder Zach Cerveny (.298), junior outfielder Matt Vance (.328, five doubles) and sophomore first baseman John Ormsby (.315, 19 RBIs). Senior Chris Rowell, an all-conference second-teamer who has committed to Shenandoah, is back as the ace of the pitching staff after recording a 1.65 ERA. He is backed by seniors Aiden Weitzel (2.42 ERA) and Jason Kinnerman (a Rowan College of South Jersey recruit), along with Ormsby and Rumsey.
OUTLOOK: The Eagles recovered from a slow start last year to reach the sectional quarterfinals and finish with a 15-8 record. They have the potential to contend in the Olympic Conference National Division and go on a playoff run in 2020.

SENECA GOLDEN EAGLES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior ace Josh Willitts is poised for a big final season at Seneca before embarking on a Division I college career at Richmond. He posted a 3.41 ERA as a junior and made the all-conference second team. His battery mate, junior catcher Joey Steff, also made the all-conference second team and will be a key player at the plate and behind it. Senior shortstop Malin Jasinski and senior third baseman Tyler Norman both hit over .350 and will be important pieces of the lineup as well. Norman also joins Willitts on the pitching staff along with senior Tyler Wells, a North Carolina Wesleyan commit. Seniors Ethan Auty and David Schneider and juniors Danny Bogert, Kory Seidle and George Thorp also hope to play a role, and sophomore pitcher/first baseman Chase Ruppel should make an impact as well.
OUTLOOK: Last year was a rebuilding one for the Golden Eagles, who finished with a 7-13 record. With several talented players back in the fold, they will shoot for a winning season.

SHAWNEE RENEGADES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: A trio of senior standouts is back to lead Shawnee. Infielder Dom Frigiola, an all-conference second-teamer and Carpenter Cup selection, hit .310 with 20 runs and seven doubles last year. He is also the Renegades’ most experienced pitcher. Frigiola dislocated his elbow during football season but is hoping to make a full recovery in time for his final campaign on the diamond. Infielder Bobby Falese joined Frigiola on the Burlington County team that won the Carpenter Cup. He batted .425 with seven doubles and has committed to Franklin & Marshall. Outfielder Cole Fleming, an NJIT commit, is also back and will be a top run producer in the middle of the order. Dalton Short and Jack Steel are other seniors expected to contribute to the everyday lineup. With the pitching staff graduating most of its best arms from last year, juniors Alec Baltz, Sean McMennamin and Nick Tamburro will all have an opportunity to log innings.
OUTLOOK: Shawnee’s 19-7 season last spring included a close loss to Egg Harbor in the first round of the Group IV playoffs. Although the Renegades certainly have some holes to patch, they are a consistent program and should remain competitive this year.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP MINUTEMEN
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Nick Hammer has been a standout pitcher for Washington Township since his freshman year and has one last season to shine before continuing his career at La Salle. He went 3-3 with a 1.70 ERA and 58 strikeouts last spring to make the all-conference first team. Senior center fielder Christian Kane is another four-year starter and returning all-conference first-teamer. He was on base a ton in 2019, as he hit .391 with 15 walks and scored 27 runs. Shortstop/outfielder Greg Rossi (.302, 20 RBIs) and middle infielder Colson Gonzalez (.273) are other key seniors, and junior second baseman/outfielder Ryley Perez is coming off a breakout season in which he batted .334. Senior catcher Austin Attanasi, senior third baseman Ryan Hansbury, junior outfielder/third baseman Dylan Sharkey and junior first baseman Jim Hallman are other experienced position players. Hammer is joined on the pitching staff by Kane, Rossi and seniors Curt Parker and Dan Oberman.
OUTLOOK: With most of their best players back in the fold, the Minutemen are likely to bounce back from last season’s 7-14 record and get back to the playoffs after a one-year absence.
