Making the Grade
A statistical snapshot of area schools’ SAT scores, graduation rates, student-to-teacher ratios and more.

It’s that time of year again when the rush to buy school supplies and plan for the coming school year is first on the to-do list. Amidst the hectic backdrop of school preparation, Suburban Family is providing its annual assessment on South Jersey public high schools so parents can keep up-to-date with the latest facts and figures from the New Jersey Department of Education. We’ve included each high school’s number of AP classes offered, SAT scores, student-to-teacher ratios and graduation rates. We’ve also added in some interesting facts along with quotes from school officials to keep you informed. Continue on to see how the school in your area compares.

Haddonfield Memorial’s football record last fall as the team won the South Jersey Group II championship which was their fifth sectional title in less than a decade.

Cherry Hill East’s ranking on Niche.com’s list of Best Schools in the nation for 2019. The list included public and private schools along with elementary, middle and high schools.   

“Together with the family and community at large, we partner to help our students grow to be good people who excel in academics, athletics, fine and performing arts, community service and seek balance in the social and emotional realm.”  —Moorestown Superintendent of Schools Scott McCartney on the recent ranking of the school at No. 42 in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

• The Lenape Regional High School District Board of Education approved a resolution to fund more than $1 million toward damaged turf fields at Shawnee and Cherokee high schools.  

• Seneca High School students, staff and parents participated in the Autism Speaks South Jersey Walk in June and surpassed their goal, raising more than $1,300. 

• Officials at Cherry Hill West compiled videos of members in the community describing what the “West Way” means to them. The collection will be used in the freshman orientation video to welcome the students into the community.  

• Last month, ESPN premiered The First Day, an educational documentary that captures the connections former NBA player Chris Herren has made with students traveling the country. Shawnee and Lenape high school presentations were a part of the film.

• Washington Township High School is providing the incoming freshman class with 600 convertible laptops. The laptops will service the students for their entire high school career.

• The Kingsway Regional girls cross country team won the South Jersey Group IV championship last season making it their fourth sectional title in a row.
