ARE MAMMOGRAMS SAFE AND EFFECTIVE? It has been reported by the Nordic Cochrane Group that mammograms may harm 10 times more women than they help. They stated that if 2,000 women had a mammogram annually for 10 years, the number of lives that would be saved is one. Due to misdiagnosis and overdiagnosis by mammography, perfectly healthy women are subjected to deadly cancer treatments including radiation, chemotherapy and surgery. These treatments leave women sick, maimed and scarred.
A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in November 2013 concluded that screening mammography caused breast cancer to be overdiagnosed (tumors that were detected on screening that would never have led to clinical symptoms) in 1.3 million U.S. women between 1976 and 2008. In 2008, it was estimated that more than 70,000 women were overdiagnosed. This accounted for 31 percent of all diagnosed breast cancers.
An article in the British Medical Journal in February 2014 concluded that “annual mammography in women aged 40-59 does not reduce mortality from breast cancer beyond that of physical examination or usual care when adjuvant therapy for breasts is freely available.”
In July 2015, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology stated “for every breast cancer that is properly diagnosed by a mammogram, five are ‘seen’ that aren't actually t here. These false diagnoses nonetheless result in surgery or a course of chemotherapy. For every 27 correctly diagnosed, 142 have a false-positive reading.”

Medical thermography was introduced in the U.S. in 1957, and in 1972 the Department of Health Education and Welfare concluded that, “Thermography, in its present state of development, is beyond the experimental state as a diagnostic procedure.”
Thermography detects the physiological changes in the breast tissue that have been shown to correlate with cancerous or pre-cancerous states. Since thermal imaging detects changes at the cellular level, studies suggest that this test can detect abnormal activity eight to 10 years before any other test. The earliest possible indication of abnormalities allows for the earliest possible intervention. The American Cancer Society, among many others, has noted the great increase in false-posit ive mammograms leading to 800,000 unnecessary biopsies a year in this country alone. Utilizing thermography to measure breast physiology, TDI is able to look at “hot spots” in potential areas of concern, the absence of which reduces suspicion and the possible need for i nvasive intervention.
An article in the Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention in 2015 concluded that thermography may be useful in the initial screening and supplementation of diagnostic procedures due to its safety (its non-radiation properties), low cost and the good recognition of breast tissue disease. Thermography can also look at the thyroid, dental and sinus regions. Research has shown that dental infections are responsible for a variety of ailments such as heart disease, thyroid dysfunction and breast cancer. TDI has been ve ry successful in identify ing dental infections, which has enabled individuals to obtain intervention and vastly improve their overall health.
Individuals with thyroid symptomatology frequently lack corroborative blood abnormalities. Anatomic testing such as ultrasound is valuable for the detection of nodules but offers little information as to the function of the gland. Thermal imaging offers a physiol ogic perspective in the evaluation of thyroid dysfunction.
