Goren, a third-grader at Bells Elementary School, did the unthinkable when he solved a Rubik’s Cube as part of the “You Can Do the Cube” program in Lauren Cisco’s classroom. But he didn’t solve just o ne cube; he solved all 24—in less than two hours. By completing the puzzles, Goren helped his classroom enter in a lottery to win their own set (after shipping back the completed cubes).

South Jersey Innovation Center and South Jersey Chess Club student Mishra has broken the record for the y oungest ever National Chess Master. At 9 years and 2½ months old, he beat his predecessor by 2½ months. A competitive chess player sinc e age 5, Mishra also holds the record for youngest ever National Chess Expert, among other recognitions and awards.

The Washington Township Board of Education has three full-term seats open. The deadline for filing nominating petitions for these positions is July 30. A budget short fall of over $5 million is resulting in over 50 teachers and staff members being let go in the Willingboro School District effective July 1. Additionally, the Garfield East Elementary School is closing permanently a t the end of the semester due to the budget issues.
Community Connection
The Haddonfield High School boys lacrosse season has been canceled due to allegations filed by Sterling High School that one of their athletes was called a racial slur during a track meet hosted by Haddonfield on May 1.
Rep. Donald Norcross announced several South Jersey communities will receive more than $12 million in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The communities receiving HUD grants include Camden, Burlington and Gloucester counties, and the city of Camden, Cherry Hill and Gloucester Township.

Police Blotter
A bald man wearing a blue shirt and black boots followed a woman into the women’s restroom at the Marlton Bed Bath & Beyond where, the woman told investigators, he stood outside her stall door breathing heavily and moaning.
A Palmyra man was fatally struck on Route 130 in Burlington Township earlier this month. The 58-year-old was riding his bicycle in the southbound lanes by Dulty’s Lane around 9:30 p.m. when he was struck by a box truck.
Police are investigating the death of an 18-month-old Sicklerville boy. The toddler was unresponsive on the lawn of the Marcia Court home when officers and EMS arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene after several attempts to revive.
