So when the Summer Olympics rolls around after four long years, I knew I wanted to celebrate. And what better way to do that than to highlight some of our area’s top athletes? You get to meet high school varsity competitors in our annual Sports Previews, and you probably recognize South Jersey athletes like US Women’s Soccer star Carli Lloyd and wrestler Jordan Burroughs from your TVs at home, but did you know that there are gold medalists right in your own backyard?
Meet South Jersey’s Special Olympics athletes: Men, women, boys and girls who are taking on multiple sports, smashing records and inspiring other athletes all over the area. We had the chance to set up a photo shoot at the Bancroft School in Haddonfield before it closes its doors forever and photograph some of these fine athletes and their coaches. It was a fun day that made me definitely want to work a lot harder at my own exercise.
You can also catch our special Shore pages at the back of this book, featuring food options, hot events and family fun happenings at the Jersey Shore in July and August. And finally, we provide options for student athletes trying to train in the summer, in anticipation of next month’s Fall Sports Preview.
This month is all about summer fun in 2016. So get out, get celebrating and enjoy.
