Chef and Camden County Technical School educator Timothy Witcher was chosen to compete on Food Network’s Chopped in February. The show pits four chefs against each other to create the best dish using a basket of “mystery ingredients” and a time limit.

Moorestown High School senior Delvadia was named the Moorestown Service Clubs Student Citizen of the Year. Delvadia was honored for her commitment to her schoolwork and her work on campus, as well as for her work in the community, as she volunteers with many local organizations.

These three Voorhees Middle School students were accepted into the Olympic Conference Honors Band for 2016. Sixth grader Shinkle was selected to play trumpet, seventh grader Reischer will play piccolo and eighth grader Fallick will play alto saxophone.

Voorhees police joined forces with Osage Elementary School to show support for Brooke Mulford, an 11-year-old student who is battling neuroblastoma. The police and school made a sign in the school’s fence out of colored plastic cups spelling out “Osage Loves Brooke” to support their fellow student before she underwent her second round of chemotherapy.

Voorhees Township’s Board of Education (BOE) unanimously elected Richard Nelson as President. The BOE also elected Barbara Dunleavy as Vice President of the BOE.

A Voorhees man was charged with robbing a Michaels craft store on Route 73 after DNA evidence located on a stolen item was found a few blocks away.

A 65-year-old Voorhees man was charged with a 30-year prison sentence for aggravated manslaughter for the fatal stabbing of his neighbor back in 2012, which was incited by the loud chirping of the neighbor’s pet birds kept on his porch.

Police are investigating an incident that happened in early February on Burnt Mill Road during which a 25-year-old man accidentally shot himself at his home. The man was treated at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

Voorhees police poked fun at the popular Mountain Dew Super Bowl commercial on their Twitter page, announcing that officials arrested Mountain Dew’s “Puppymonkeybaby” for shoplifting Mountain Dew.

At a Feb. 8 Committee Meeting, Voorhees officials presented a first reading to install a stop sign at the intersection of Dutchtown Road and Howe Blvd.

At the same meeting, officials officially appointed Adam Scholnick and Michael Dershem as new members of the Voorhees Township Recreation Advisory Board.

Voorhees native and Villanova Student placed third in his heat and 10th overall in the 200 meter dash at the FastTrack National Invite in Staten Island, N.Y. Pierce is a freshman at Villanova and former Rancocas Valley athlete who captured a state title in the 4x100 relay while at RV.

Tim Bieg

Former Camden Catholic basketball star Tim Bieg has been inducted into the Albert Carino Basketball Club of South Jersey Hall of Fame. Bieg was the leading scorer for the Irish during his career, with 1,503 points in four years. He was honored alongside other inductees at an event in February.

Team, player and coach news

Linebacker Darius McKenzie, a senior at Eastern, announced that he will continue his football career at Alderson Broaddus University, a Division II program in Philippi, W. Va.

Eastern senior wrestler Brandon Barbella picked up the 100th victory of his career in January with a 3-0 decision over Seneca’s Geoffrey Lake. A district and region champion as a junior, the 132-pounder will continue his career at Clarion University.

Emily Fendrick, a senior guard on the Eastern girls basketball team, advanced to the Elite Eight of the South Jersey Invitational Basketball Tournament 3-point shooting contest. Fendrick is the Vikings’ leading scorer.


Eastern’s Jaylyn Thompson has signed with Virgina Tech to play for the women’s soccer team. Midfielder Thompson—who also played on defense-- finished her career with the Vikings with 12 goals and nine assists.
