With the holiday season just around the corner, now is the time to kick off a cleaner diet before the big meals and parties begin. Autumn is the perfect time for us to refresh our diets with super foods, which are high in nutrients and have many health benefits. Take a look at these super dishes from around our towns to help fuel your fall days.

High in fiber, vitamin E and other nutrients, avocado is one of our favorite super foods for all meals. Sautéed veggies, black beans and avocado are served over a bed of leafy kale and topped with queso fresco, a squeeze of lime and chipotle purée for a spicy kick.

Nothing compares to a hearty soup on a crisp fall day. Healthy Garden’s black bean soup provides that warm, fuzzy feeling while also being nutritious, too. Black beans are high in protein and antioxidants, making this super food the perfect base to a robust soup, which gets finished with crumbled feta and avocado.

Hummus isn’t just for dipping anymore. Made from chickpeas, which are full of protein and antioxidants, hummus is spread on a whole wheat tortilla before being topped with organic vegetables and coated with house-made vinaigrette on this fresh, crisp wrap.
Roasted free range chicken sits on a bed of kale and organic baby spinach, covered in cucumbers and raw cauliflower with a hint of earthy sweetness from tea-soaked raisins and toasted almonds. Lemon curry yogurt dressing is drizzled atop the whole bowl to add a bit of creaminess that is still light.
Green Papaya Salad

This Vietnamese-French fusion restaurant uses the lesser-known green papaya as the star of this nutrient-rich salad. High in vitamins A, C, E and B, it gets paired with red peppers and carrots over a bed of iceberg lettuce and showered with peanuts, cashews and a Vietnamese dressing for a bite that’s sweet, salty, crispy and beautifully fresh.

With high levels of vitamin C and antioxidants, spinach is a super food that’s almost effortless to add to your diet. Zoe’s fills these savory snacks with fresh mushrooms and roasted tomatoes along with feta and gooey mozzarella cheese. Sprinkled with scallions and then served with dipping salsa, these roll-ups will give you an extra boost.

You’ve heard of a BLT, but Harvest’s “MLT”—mushroom, lettuce, tomato—is our new fall favorite. Boasting protein- and fiber-rich quinoa with fried green tomato, Harvest does it right with this sandwich. It’s served on naan flatbread with wood-grilled Portobello mushrooms and a sundried tomato vinaigrette for a rich, smoky flavor.
