Prepping for another competitive season with our 2012 Fall Sports Preview

The local high school sports programs prosper year-round in South Jersey, but there is something about the fall that seems to bring out the best in the athletes and teams.

This fall in particular has some stunningly successful programs such as the Eastern field hockey team, which is aiming for its 14th straight state title. Or the Lenape girls’ soccer squad, which has won five state championships in a row.

The boys’ soccer program at Cherokee has captured the last two state Group 4 titles. Haddonfield’s girls’ tennis team won the state Group 2 title and was the consensus No. 1 squad in South Jersey.

In football, Haddonfield has enjoyed the most prosperous period in its storied history, having gone 32-4 in the past three seasons, while making three straight title game appearances.

The list goes on and on. As the high school sports teams prepare for another season, Suburban Family is presenting its second annual preseason issue, looking at 15 area schools with a rundown of the nine NJSIAA fall sports, as well as a look at just a few of the many successful coaches in this area.

Those schools featured are Bishop Eustace, Camden Catholic, Cherokee, Cherry Hill East, Cherry Hill West, Eastern, Gloucester Catholic, Haddonfield, Lenape, Moorestown, Moorestown Friends, Paul VI, Seneca, Shawnee and Washington Township.

Included is a list of the known Division I college commitments as of our publication date (click here and scroll down for this information). This is a list that will surely grow as the year goes on.

We hope this helps you get ready for the fall sports season and that you enjoy supporting the local athletes in what promises to be another year of outstanding competition.
