Washington Township
Washington Township’s U-11 Diablos soccer team, led by head coach Gary Dean and assistant coaches Carmen Nigro, Joe Fernandes and Mark Baker, were the champions in the township Easter Classic Soccer Tournament in April.

The Marlton Thunder 12U Red fast pitch softball team came in first place in the USSSA May Mayhem World Series Qualifier in Quakertown, Pa., the weekend of April 28. Out of 20 teams, the Thunder went 7-0 and outscored their opponents by 50 points during the course of the tournament.

Joseph Dilks
Cherry Hill
The Cherry Hill East Robotics Team, coached by Dilks, was recognized at the May 8 board of education meeting for their third consecutive win at the New Jersey State Championships. At the 2012 VEX Robotics Competition World Championships in April, two Cherry Hill teams won the Teamwork Award in the science and technology divisions.

Tracy Burkhart
Washington Township
Girls’ softball coach Burkhart notched career win No. 200 on April 14, leading the Minutemaids past Audubon and Williamstown at the Rancocas Valley Elite Tournament. She has been the coach since 2001 and, under her leadership, the team has won five Olympic Conference American Division titles, three Group IV title wins, and a state championship in 2002.

Jeff Holman
The Haddonfield boys’ tennis team, coached by Holman, won the prestigious Moorestown Classic title for the first time in 26 years in early May. They defeated host Moorestown 3-2 to take the championship.

Shelby Smith and Lauren Curry
Cherry Hill
Cherry Hill West Dance Team, coached by Smith and Curry, dominated the EDA National Dance Competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The team placed first in Large Varsity Jazz with their performance of “Avatar” and first in Large Varsity Hip Hop with “Mimes.” They also took home first place in Hip Hop, third place in Jazz, and Best Choreography. For the fifth consecutive year, they also won the Eastern Elite Award, given to the team that receives the highest score for a single performance during the two-day competition, which includes more than 70 performances from schools across the country.

Paula Escudero
The Shawnee softball team, led by coach Escudero, scored big in the Hammonton Invitational Softball Tournament, consisting of the top 16 teams in South Jersey. The girls beat Buena High School 3-2, then defeated Gloucester Catholic High School 19-11. They moved on to the semifinals to win over Washington Township 5-1.

Cindy Bradley and John Schultz
Mount Laurel
The Lenape Athletic Foundation will give an Athletic Lifetime Achievement Award to Bradley, the girls’ basketball coach from 1964-86, and Schultz, the softball coach from 1976-2004. The award recognizes and honors individuals for their commitment to Lenape High School athletics and students.

Lynn Molotsky and Brad Trinkner
Molotsky’s Eastern Indoor Color Guard and Trinkner’s Eastern Indoor Drumline both won the South Jersey Regional Championships (Chapter 1) at the end of April. The ensembles then traveled to Wildwood in early May to compete in the All Chapter Championships.

Anne Dinshah
Dinshah’s boys’ novice crew team took home first place at their first regatta of the year, beating out 18 other teams from Pennsylvania and New Jersey at the second Manny Flick Regatta, and the girls’ novice team took second place in their race. They also both took home gold at a regatta at the Cooper River in late April. Then during the first weekend in May, the school sent seven boats to compete at the Garden State Scholastic Championships, racing against 39 high school teams from across the state.

Bill Donoghue
Moorestown High School baseball coach Donoghue celebrated his 200th victory last month in a 16-4 victory over Pemberton. Player Chance Embler's second inning grand slam led to a seven-run inning that sealed the game.

Dave Light
Gloucester City
Softball coach Light celebrated his 300th career win on May 1 after a win against Deptford. In his 15 seasons as the head coach of the team, Light has earned a winning percentage of 79, with four state titles, seven South Jersey titles and eight tri-county championships.
