After a video posted by a Cherry Hill father went viral, district officials are looking into allegations of teacher misconduct at Horace Mann Elementary. In the video, the father claims two staffers bullied his 10-year-old autistic son and had inappropriate conversations about alcohol in front of students—which he discovered after sending his son to school with a hidden recording device. Cherry Hill Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Maureen Reusche assured parents in a public statement that the district responded “swiftly and appropriately” and will continue to investigate what happened in the classroom.

Our fair state is the best place to raise a child, at least according to a recent study by the Foundation for Child Development. New Jersey is at the top of the ranking in the latest Child Well-Being Index, which measures relationships between child happiness and selected state policies, economic and demographic measures. We surpassed Massachusetts for first place, followed closely by New Hampshire, Utah and Connecticut.

Our condolences go out to the friends, family and classmates of Washington Township senior Nicole Kellenyi, who was killed in an April car accident that put another friend in critical condition. As a show of support and solidarity for the gifted athlete, cheerleader and honor student, WTHS students walked out of their 4th period classes and surrounded Kellenyi’s parking spot with flowers and mementos before silently marching around the school’s track.

Thanks to a grant from PetSmart Charities, our four-legged friends have access to free spay and neuter services at the Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees. The two-year grant will provide surgeries for up to 3,000 cats, available to any resident who lives in Bellmawr, Lindenwold, Voorhees and all of Gloucester Township.

J. Harold Van Zant Elementary School is about to get a little more wired. The Evesham Township School won a $15,000 prize from an online contest sponsored by Cherry Hill’s Cartridge World. That money will go to purchase two interactive whiteboards, along with two notepad computers and laptops, bringing interactive technology straight into the classroom.

Cherokee High School seniors Monica Kelly, Kaitlyn Young, Taylor Coigne and Rachel Visitacion know how to rock, and they’ll be proving that at this summer’s 10th anniversary Bamboozle Festival in front of thousands of music fans. The Marlton girls form rock band Short Lived Affair and are the two-time winners of The Break Contest, a tournament of more than 600 independent bands battling for the opportunity to play the festival, which includes Bon Jovi, Blink 182 and Foo Fighters.
