Haddonfield
Michael Garvey (pictured), a Haddonfield High School grad, will join his team, the Tomahawks, as they become the first U.S. team in history to battle in the Rugby League World Cup. Garvey, 23, a former Haddonfield varsity football player, only had three years of rugby experience before being drafted to the Tomahawks, who defeated Jamaica 40-4 at the Atlantic World Cup Qualifiers in Camden on Oct. 23. The Rugby League World Cup will take place in Ireland in 2013.

This J. Harold Van Zant Elementary School fifth grader is the starting goalie for his lacrosse team and twice named MVP: once in his tournament league and once at a recent clinic. Voiro is also finishing up his fourth season playing defensive back for the undefeated Marlton Chiefs 105 JV Black Squad.

Ehrlich, a Cherry Hill East senior, recently received the USA Swimming Scholastic All American award for the second time in her career. Candidates for this award, which recognize students who excel in swimming and academics, have a minimum 3.5 GPA and have achieved the required time standard in a single event.

Cherokee’s Streicher, a four-year varsity volleyball player, reached a major milestone last month, becoming the first player in school history to exceed 1,000 career assists.
Connor Herr

Shawnee's Herr took home first place at the Burlington County Open at Willingboro's Mill Creek Park, with a time of 16:16. He also ran a new conference season best at the Olympic Conference Championships, placing second with a time of 15:47.00 in the 5000m.
Sean Gray
Tabernacle
Sean Gray, a Seneca senior, is the school’s first male athlete to be accepted to a Division I college on an athletic scholarship for lacrosse. He will play at Wagner University in New York, on a combined full athletic and academic scholarship.
Elina Pereira and Sophia Miller
Medford
Soccer stars Pereira, a Shawnee junior, and sophomore Miller recently medaled in the AAU Junior Olympic Games in New Orleans. Miller, a Red team forward, took home the gold medal, while Pereira, a goalkeeper for the Pink team, won the bronze.
Alana Barry
Voorhees
Goalkeeper Alana Barry, a senior at Eastern High School, earned her 10th shutout win of the year against Cherokee on Oct. 11. While this may seem impressive enough, she has now set the national record for career shutouts, with an impressive 68 shutouts in her four years at Eastern.
John Montesjardi
Washington Township
This Washington Township junior varsity footballer was recognized as “Back of the Week” in October by the Touchdown Club of South Jersey. Montesjardi, who recently clocked 161 yards in a game against Eastern and has a two point average per game, was honored at a banquet by the team.
George Duffield, Jr.
Mount Laurel
Duffield, a cross country runner with the Mount Laurel Striders, took the race title at the Mount Laurel 5k in late Sept, finishing first overall with a time of 19:27.
Donna Maier
Barrington
Maier, a member of the Barrington Girls Travel Soccer Team, won a sportsmanship award from the South Jersey Girls Soccer League. Her team went 9-0-1 this season to win their first SJGSL Conference Championship.
Kate Taylor and Ashley Moore
South Jersey
These eighth-grade field hockey players have organized a Play 4 the Cure breast cancer fundraiser tournament for the past two years, raising upwards of $2,500 last year for breast cancer research. Taylor and Moore, both members of the U.S.A. Field Hockey Association, put together the fundraiser in late October, hosting several games with athletes from Shamong, Tabernacle, Southampton, Pemberton, Marlton and Seneca High School.
