Faces and Places: December, 2010

by Editorial Staff--Suburban Family Magazine
Get Animated
Nate Gutoski (pictured), a graduate of Washington Township High School and an animation major at Savannah College of Art & Design, joined the students in Kristen Smith’s animation class—one of just a handful of high school-level courses on this burgeoning field—to speak about the animation business.

Pajama Party
The students and staff of Naudain Academy in Voorhees dressed down—way down—for a fundraiser for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society! Sixty-eight children contributed a total of $775 for the privilege of wearing their winter pajamas to school in support of the cause.

Not Just by the Book
The Lenape Regional High School District’s Seneca High School media center, where librarian Kathy Donoghue routinely welcomes students to work, talk quietly, study, and even eat their lunch (if they clean up after themselves), earned the “Outstanding School Library in New Jersey” award from the American Association of School Librarians. The award—one of just a handful given across the country—was due in part to Donoghue’s efforts to create an atmosphere where students want to hang out.

Sing Out
Lenape High School students Lauren Schutz, Christine Gargus, Victoria Reid and Anna Reid, (pictured from left to right), were accepted into the 2011 All South Jersey Regional Honors Choir, a very vocal honor. They’ll join students from across the region at choral concerts on Jan. 29 and 30 at Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees.
