The Best Seats in the House
With the November 6 open house approaching, Paul VI is saving visitors the best seats in the (Paul VI) house.

by Staff

Known for its myriad of electives, programs and overall opportunity, Paul VI takes a great deal of Eagle pride in providing environments to support its many special offerings. Different programs require different tools, and yes, different seating. Read on for a sampling of the many ways you can take your seat at Paul VI.

Lots of books… lots of learning… lots of seats.
With seating as assorted as its book collection, the Paul VI Learning Media Center is designed for everyone to do their best work. There are straight-backed chairs in study corrals for the focused and independent; for the more collaborative students, seating is arranged around tables for group work. For the mechanically inclined, industrial-style stools surround an impressive maker’s space to encourage trial and error. And for those who just love to curl up with a good book, there are cozy armchairs and couches. Perfect for napping if napping were allowed. Which it is not.

Can a chair make you feel smarter?
Paul VI educators say yes, especially in the school’s computer labs. The 218 lab has upholstered swivel chairs that say you’re going places – literally, because they’re also on wheels. The 215 lab chairs match their “competitors” feature for feature, except for the mesh chair backs that let you know that computers and PVI computer scientists are generating some serious academic heat.

Are they bleachers if you have your own seat?
The Paul VI gym, also known as “The Nest,” features row after row of spectator seating in the school’s iconic royal blue. Paul VI would call them bleachers, but they’re subtly engineered to give every member of “the Flock” just enough elbow room to cheer on the school’s teams safely. Are the seats comfortable? Couldn’t tell you – the Flock never sits.

Would you eat lunch in a chair? Would you eat lunch in fresh air?
The choice is yours at Paul VI. With an assortment of seating as varied as the menu, Paul VI students can choose the bistro-vibe of the dining hall that features counter seating, booths, café tables and chairs, even a couch or two for coffee… or head outdoors for lunch alfresco in the picnic area with Eagle-blue tables and benches, and striped umbrellas. Could lunch be more enjoyable? Paul VI thinks not.

Seating that rivals the stage.
While watching the spring musical from your seat is is not equal to performing the show onstage, the Paul VI auditorium is stunning from every vantage point. The official school colors were set aside in favor of a traditional deep red that upholsters some very luxurious, ultra-comfortable theater chairs. Applause-worthy? Certainly. Nap-inducing? Never. The shows are just too good!

Some seats are just more important than others.
The pews in the chapel may not be the comfiest seats in school, but they are ones nearest and dearest to the Paul VI heart. Nestled in the very center of the school, the little chapel is where Mass is said each school day morning. Its doors remain open to students throughout the day, offering a quiet place for prayer, reflection, and the kind of comfort no mere seat can provide.
