Weinberg, Kaplan & Smith (WKS) was founded by partners and shareholders Amy Smith and Dawn Kaplan as a boutique matrimonial law firm located in Marlton which provides personalized attention while offering the full breadth of experience. The highly skilled firm is able to resolve complex and financial challenges in court or through alternative avenues.
Smith and Kaplan had previously worked together at another firm and were inspired to open their own practice.
“We viewed family law a little differently and felt it was important to have our own firm to be able to make decisions and handle matters in a way that would be more beneficial to clients,” Smith says.
She also describes the attorneys at WKS as dedicated and incredibly knowledgeable litigators who work extremely well together: “which is certainly to the benefit of our clients and one of the things that truly sets us apart from other firms.”
In 2019, Michael Weinberg joined the firm. Kaplan explains that all attorneys at the firm specialize in matrimonial law. As a heavy litigation firm, there is a certain amount of care the attorneys and staff provide to clients given that it is naturally an emotional situation.
Kaplan says she often relates to clients on a personal level as someone who has been divorced and is now remarried into a blended family that includes her two children and two stepchildren. Known for her passion and commitment in handling complex litigation, Kaplan says she understands the challenges and the rewards of a blended family. She shares that it wasn’t always easy, but her firsthand understanding “shows there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”
She has substantial trial experience in divorce, dissolution of civil unions and domestic partnerships, child custody, child support, equitable distribution, premarital agreements and domestic violence. Her clients include homemakers, business owners, high-net-worth individuals and professionals.
Smith handles divorce cases involving domestic violence, with experience as a prosecutor that has equipped her with an understanding of the cycle of violence. Smith says the key to interacting with clients is being a good listener and having a transparent relationship in order to properly guide the client through the process. Especially when children are involved, divorce can be a tumultuous time in someone’s life. Her empathetic approach is a guiding principle as a strong legal advocate.
She represents her clients with a focus on settlement and will fight for what is in each client’s best interests. Smith has received substantial trial experience in family law matters including divorce, dissolution of civil unions and domestic partnerships, child custody, child support, equitable distribution, premarital agreements and domestic violence.
Both Kaplan and Smith are part of a team who works together with a common goal in mind, which is to get their clients the best possible settlement. This includes remaining conscious of fees and always striving to be cost-effective. That is why clients turn to Weinberg, Kaplan & Smith for the confidence and support they need.
