Bishop Eustace
Crusaders
Players to watch: Senior midfielder Mia Abbey has been a difference-maker for Bishop Eustace since she was a freshman and is primed for a big senior season before moving on to Division I William & Mary. She scored 19 goals and notched six assists as a junior to make the all-conference first team, all-South Jersey second team, and all-state Top 20 South Region. Senior forward Erin Moriarty, who had five goals and two assists to make the all-conference second team, is another key veteran who will aid the attack. Other returners who will contribute are senior forward/midfielder Alaina Staab and three sophomores who flashed huge potential as rookies: midfielder/defender Reghan Dundee, midfielder Mya Tinges and forward Ava Straccialini. The defense is also loaded with senior Hayley Noonan, a four-year starter, and senior Ace Higgins leading the way. Junior Chloe Adams and sophomore Pearie Cook are other backs in front of senior goalie Izzy Serano, who made 142 saves as a junior and was rewarded with all-conference second-team honors.
Outlook: The Crusaders’ 12-6-1 season included a berth in the Coaches Cup and their second trip to the sectional final in three years. They graduated one half of their dynamic offensive duo, leading scorer Allie Serlenga, but are happy to have Abbey and a host of talented returners back with eyes on another playoff run.
Camden Catholic
Fighting Irish
Players to watch: Senior midfielder Kayla Dunn has found the back of the net five times each of the past two seasons and also dished out four assists last year. She will once again be an important piece of the Camden Catholic attack, along with senior midfielder Leah DiCicco, who chipped in four goals and two assists as a junior. Senior Leilani Beasley and junior Jamie DiCicco are talented forwards, while junior Ella DiSimone and sophomores Maddy Mills and Gabby Zacharkow will also contribute offensively. Senior Alexa von Hohenstein returns to the defense after earning all-conference second-team accolades, alongside junior Cassidy Robey and sophomore Caroline Brennan. Juniors Annabelle Gallagher, Kuyill Ponnappan, Jocelyn Stone and Olivia Acevedo will also push for time as Ayana Jackson looks to win the goalkeeper spot.
Outlook: Last year was a rebuilding one for the Irish as they went 4-14 with a lot of new faces in the lineup, but the experience should pay dividends and significant progress is to be expected this fall.
Cherokee
Chiefs
Players to watch: After a promising rookie season in 2022, forward/midfielder Abbie Zubrzycki took her game up a notch last year. She had five goals and six assists to make the all-conference first team and the all-South Jersey second team, and now that she’s an upperclassman she will look to lead the way for Cherokee. Sophomore forward Mia Donovan (six goals, two assists), junior forward Caroline Neal (three goals, two assists) and senior midfielder Stephanie Monroe (one goal, two assists) are other returning playmakers. Junior Paige Wagner and sophomore Nellie Boland will also contribute offensively and experienced players in the midfield are junior Tahlia Rowe and senior Ava Schramm. Senior Morgan Shank anchors the defense after earning all-conference second-team recognition, and other returning backs are juniors Lyla Clark and Morrison Reeve and seniors Courtney Fricker and Jessica Mihalak. All-South Jersey goalie Jada Branford graduated so a new starter will have to emerge.
Outlook: The Chiefs’ 9-6-4 season included an appearance in the Coaches Cup and a trip to the South Jersey, Group 4 semifinals, where they dropped a 1-0 game to eventual sectional champion Central Regional. There are several important positions to fill but the core is in place for another successful season.
Cherry Hill East
Cougars
Players to watch: Juniors Julia Maher and Kira Fowler have both been key players for Cherry Hill East since they were freshmen and have emerged as two of the top players in the Olympic Conference. Maher, a center midfielder, had seven goals and two assists last year to make the all-conference first team, while Fowler, a forward, led the Cougars with eight goals and five assists and received second-team accolades. Sophomore forward Talia Armando also made the all-conference second team after totaling six goals and three assists as a rookie, and other offensive sparks include seniors Gabby Cynanik, Alyssa Perez, Ryan Daddis and Leila Devera along with junior Lauren Carter. Seniors Madison Schultz (93 saves) and Erin Winslow (61 saves) are back to share time in net, and experienced defenders in front of them include senior Darby Chhabria and sophomore Dylan Kratchman, who started as a freshman and never left the field. Sophomores Ellie Ferdas and Jessie Atlas also earned varsity minutes and showed potential as rookies, and Paige Heskin is a junior to keep an eye on.
Outlook: The Cougars have been inching closer and closer to a winning record in recent years, and this could be the season to do it thanks to the promising talent returning to the program.
Cherry Hill West
Lions
Players to watch: Cherry Hill West may have graduated leading scorer and all-South Jersey first-team selection Kennedy Erdman, but it does welcome back two members of the all-South Jersey third team: senior midfielder Julie Short and senior back Danielle Short. They both also made the all-conference first team and will be key pieces of the Lions’ defense along with senior Reese Heil. Their experience will be crucial since West must find a replacement for three-year starting goalie Abby Leporati, who graduated. Senior Tori Chase will look to earn the job. Senior Julia Lewis, an all-conference second-teamer, is another important returner who brings athleticism and experience and will help control the midfield along with senior Bryce Westervelt. There is no replacing Erdman, but fortunately sophomore forward Veronika Jablonski returns following a strong rookie campaign. She had nine goals and seven assists to make the all-conference second team, and will have help offensively from senior Kenyce Robles and junior Alana Alayo. Senior Reagan Smith is a veteran in the midfield and defensive pieces include senior Rayna Robertson and sophomore Jazmin Marrero. Other returners looking to make an impact are senior Emma Devine and juniors Reese Billings and Drea DiSalvo.
Outlook: The Lions followed up their South Jersey, Group 3 championship in 2022 with another solid season in 2023, as they went 12-7-2, qualified for the Coaches Cup and won a playoff game before falling 1-0 to Moorestown in the sectional quarterfinals. Things will look different without Erdman on the field but the core is in place for a successful campaign.
Clearview
Pioneers
Players to watch: Clearview graduated a solid senior class and will be looking for new leaders to emerge this fall. Senior forward Emily Coyle is a strong candidate; she had three goals and two assists as a junior and will spark the attack. Sophomore forward Ava D’Alessandro showed potential as a rookie and junior Samantha Ambrose is another returner up top, while junior Ava Vogl is a key player in the midfield. The defense looks stout thanks to the return of junior Imani Rowe and seniors Paige Hanson, Mia Borodin, Gabrielle Reihing and Isabella Moraca. They will support sophomore goalie Nora Klase, who hopes to replace four-year starter Madison Wessel. Other returners hoping to play bigger roles include junior defender Brett Foster, junior forward Sara Longo and sophomore midfielders Jordyn An and Quinn Anderson.
Outlook: The Pioneers went 5-10-4 last season, but six of their losses were by one goal and they were competitive in almost every match. If they can find a way to pull out a few more of the close games, their record should improve significantly.
Eastern
Vikings
Players to watch: Eastern brings back a balanced core that includes its offensive MVP and its two leading goal scorers from a year ago. Senior forward Lily Burt was the MVP after scoring eight goals and leading the Vikings with 13 assists to make the all-conference first team. Senior forward Johnna Gonter netted a team-high 13 goals to go with four assists, while senior midfielder Aubrey Benfield added 12 goals and four assists and joined Burt on the all-conference first team. All three will continue their careers at the next level: Benfield is headed to Lee University, Gonter is committed to TCNJ and Burt is still considering her options. Other returning playmakers include senior midfielder Mariah Spector, an all-conference first-teamer who had three goals and nine assists, and senior forwards Nevaeh Roark (eight goals, five assists) and Katarena Kokolis (five goals, three assists). Senior Ava Moyer, a Stockton commit, is moving from the back line to the midfield, and other midfielders to keep an eye on are junior Charli Aumiller and sophomores Abby Medolla and Sklyar Yezzi. Eastern graduated defensive MVP Remi Cherkas but brings back a key senior in goalie Araba Abanyie, an all-conference second-teamer. Sophomore Leah Schuenemann is transitioning from the midfield to defense and junior Marlee Praesel will look to play a bigger role on the back line.
Outlook: After falling to Sterling in PKs in the Coaches Cup final and suffering an upset loss to GCIT in the South Jersey, Group 4 quarterfinals during a 19-2-3 season, the Vikings will be hungry to get back on top in both of those tournaments, and they have the talent to do just that.
Gloucester Catholic
Rams
Players to watch: Three all-conference second-team players are back to lead Gloucester Catholic: senior forward Remi Wicken, junior midfielder Kaitlyn Capalbo and senior back Hailey Molis. Wicken and Capalbo each scored six goals to share team-high honors, and Molis added four goals and two assists while solidifying the defense to receive all-conference accolades for the second year in a row. Junior Bella Laumer (three goals, three assists) is also an offensive spark, and other key returners up top and in the midfield include senior Izzy Partridge, juniors Ana Yucis and Sara Yucis, and sophomores Olivia Pisano and Alexa Battaglia. Junior Lauren Narolewski has playmaking skills as well—she totaled three goals and five assists in limited minutes at forward—but is also the most experienced goalie on the roster and had 132 saves. Senior Gabby Scirrotto and junior Olivia Burgo are top defenders in front of her.
Outlook: The Rams went 9-6-2 last season, improving by six wins from the year before. They are optimistic about posting another winning record under new head coach Elysa Virella, a former standout in the program and a Division I player at Boston College who spent the past two seasons as the head coach at Overbrook.
Haddonfield
Bulldawgs
Players to watch: Four all-conference players are back for Haddonfield, including senior forward Tuesday Brown, who led the Bulldawgs with 10 goals and was second with six assists on her way to first-team recognition. Her presence up top should continue to put pressure on opposing defenses and open up opportunities for those around her. Senior midfielder Addison Pierce is another playmaker who thrives on setting up her teammates—she led Haddonfield with eight assists to go with one goal and was named to the all-conference second team. Seniors Grace Farrell and Maeve Hurly, junior Julia McHale and sophomores Amelia Ropiak and Brooke Schultz also have the potential to contribute offensively. Defensively, the Bulldawgs are led by senior goalie Enya McCarthy, who made 118 saves, and senior back Audrey Adams. Both made the all-conference first team, and McCarthy also made the all-South Jersey second team. Senior Maria Burns is another experienced goalie and other veterans looking to aid the cause are senior Fiona Keenan and junior Lauren Anton.
Outlook: The Bulldawgs competed in the Coaches Cup and won at least one playoff game for the ninth straight year before falling in the sectional quarterfinals and finishing with an 11-9-1 record in 2023. One of the most consistent programs in South Jersey expects to be in the mix once again this fall.
Kingsway
Dragons
Players to watch: Kingsway graduated a stellar senior class but is happy to have senior forward Cailon Burlingame back in the fold. She scored a team-high 15 goals to go with three assists during a breakout junior season in which she made the all-conference first team and all-South Jersey third team. She’ll have help offensively from senior forward Riley Lewin, junior midfielders Meghan Shannon and Liliana MacMinn and junior forward Phoebe O’Rourke. Junior goalie Mackenzie Barry seized the starting job as a sophomore and made 145 saves on her way to all-conference second-team recognition. Seniors Olivia Neuman, Haley Brown, Audrey Donaldson and Calli Charron are key defenders in front of her, while senior Caroline Brickner and junior Olivia Prettelt add depth in net. Other veterans expected to contribute are seniors Katey Mason, Julia Maden, Sarah Ostrowski and Addi Torres and juniors Maria Banfer and Kendall Flowers.
Outlook: The Dragons’ memorable 2023 season included a division championship, a victory in the Coaches Cup and a trip to the South Jersey, Group 4 final, where they dropped a hard-fought 1-0 game to Central Regional. There are important positions to fill but with Burlingame leading the charge, hopes remain high.
Lenape
Indians
Players to watch: Junior midfielder Ava Kueny has established herself as a talented playmaker and it will be exciting to see what she can accomplish as an upperclassman. She has led Lenape in assists each of her first two seasons – recording 11 last year – and also emerged as the Indians’ top goal scorer as a sophomore, when she found the back of the net 11 times as well. She was rewarded with all-conference first-team honors. Senior forward Samantha Eiswerth is another proven finisher who had five goals and two assists. Senior Alexandra Mankowski is a key returner in the midfield and other potential contributors to the attack are juniors Emma Moon and Emily Ramirez and sophomores Jillian Bak and Maddie Greenwich. Junior Keira Platt, an all-conference second-teamer, is back to anchor the defense, which also returns experienced veterans Michaela Mitchell, Addison Eiswerth, Emily Huynh and Mariella Torres, all seniors, and juniors Melina Fioravanti and Lexie Buciorelli. Senior Emily Moss will look to assume the starting goalie job and sophomore Carly Phillips is another back to watch.
Outlook: The Indians went 4-12-3 last year with six one-goal losses, including a first-round playoff game against eventual sectional champion Central Regional. With a promising returning core, they hope to turn some of those close defeats into victories and contend for a winning record.
Moorestown
Quakers
Players to watch: Moorestown allowed just 20 goals in 22 games last year and is happy to welcome back several important pieces of that defense. Senior goalie Lauren Swafford has been an all-conference first-team selection each of the past two seasons, and she added all-South Jersey first-team accolades in 2023 after making 104 saves. She will continue her career at Rutgers. Junior Ellia Oteri emerged as a dominant center back as a sophomore and joined Swafford on the all-conference first team to go with all-South Jersey third-team honors. Seniors Mae Murphy, Hannah Dixon, Ava Casey-Seuss and Madeline Steene are other veteran defenders. There is also plenty of talent at the offensive end, starting with senior forward Katie Bianco, who has led Moorestown in scoring in each of her three seasons. She netted seven goals as a junior and made the all-conference first team. Senior midfielder Lizzie Arthur (three goals, three assists) also made the all-conference first team, and other returners in the midfield are senior Caitlin Fidler and sophomore Natalie Janulis. Seniors Mable Kulp, Belle McCloud and Sydney Salmons, juniors Mason Celhar, Julia Blong and Caroline Boren and sophomores Ella Brittain, Meghan Hock, Tess Murphy, Kaitlin McNulty and Piper English also have the potential to contribute this season.
Outlook: The Quakers saw their record improve by seven wins last year, as they went 12-8-2, qualified for the Coaches Cup and reached the sectional semifinals. They will look to contend in the Olympic National Division and make another deep playoff run this fall.
Moorestown Friends
Foxes
Players to watch: Moorestown Friends suffered major losses to graduation with three all-league players moving on, including leading scorer Foluke Balogun, who netted 25 goals last year and more than 90 for her career. The top returner is senior back Mikelle Smith, who has made the all-league first team each of the past two seasons. She not only anchors the defense but can also contribute offensively, as shown by her two goals and three assists as a junior. Junior Jade McRae and senior Brielle Mitchell, both midfielders, will also look to generate scoring chances. Junior Emilia Kochan will likely take over as the starting goalie and can also play in the field when needed. Junior Kayla Haines and sophomore Rebecca Levy will push for time in the midfield and junior Tessa Haines is another experienced back. Junior Ida Ramos and sophomore Maddie Lovequist will look to take on bigger roles.
Outlook: The Foxes went 10-7 and finished in second place in their final season in the Friends Schools League. New head coach Madeline Corwin hopes to keep the program competitive as it moves into the Burlington County Scholastic League.
Paul VI
Eagles
Players to watch: Paul VI brings back several veteran leaders and an outstanding sophomore class from last year’s division championship squad. Leading the way are junior center midfielder Emma McCarthy, an all-conference first-teamer, and seniors Sara O’Donnell and Danielle Hennessy. O’Donnell, a forward, had three goals and five assists, while Hennessy, a midfielder and Seton Hall commit, added three goals and three assists. The super sophs include forwards Eleanor Lawyer (six goals, two assists), an all-conference second-teamer, and Camryn Koerner (five goals, three assists). Junior Gia DiFabritis also returns at forward and experienced midfielders are senior Rylee Brault, juniors Brianna Carpinella and Claire Magee, and sophomores Natalie Howe, Hunter Kintzing and Kylie Berk. Senior Angela DiDonato and sophomore Lyla Quinones are key defenders and sophomore Chloe Krupa is a candidate become the starting goalie.
Outlook: The Eagles repeated as Olympic National champions, competed in the Coaches Cup and reached the sectional quarterfinals during a memorable 11-6-2 campaign. Optimism is high in the program with so many top players back in the fold.
Seneca
Golden Eagles
Players to watch: Seneca will look a lot different this fall after the graduation of one of the state’s premier offensive duos – all-South Jersey forward Ava Palladino and South Jersey Midfielder of the Year Gabby Miller – plus the departure of head coach Matt Abate. But there are still important pieces returning from the Golden Eagles’ back-to-back sectional championship teams, starting with senior center midfielder Caydence Feehan. A starter since her freshman year, Feehan netted five goals as a junior and led Seneca with 17 assists to make the all-conference second team. She is especially dangerous on set pieces and will be crucial to the attack this fall. Junior midfielder Maddy Schwartz had three goals and four assists to make the all-conference second team, senior midfielder Sam Zahradnick added two goals and two assists, and junior forward Moira Vining chipped in four goals and two assists. They will look to step up in the absence of Palladino and Miller, while other offensive threats include senior Caitlin O’Keefe and juniors Hannah Eichman and Kate Kutsmeda. Senior Alyssa Catando will add support in the midfield after mainly contributing on the back line as a junior. The Golden Eagles’ defense is also solid thanks to the return of senior center back Nora Eberman, an all-conference first-teamer, and senior goalie Genevieve Jenkins, who turned away 126 shots and made the all-conference second team. Senior Rihanna Vincent is another key back who can also generate scoring opportunities, and Molly O’Keefe is a senior to keep an eye on as well.
Outlook: A special 2023 season included the program’s fourth sectional title before Seneca fell to Wall in PKs in the state semifinals to finish with an 18-4-2 record. New coach Chris Watson has some glaring holes to fill but inherits a promising roster and the Golden Eagles should remain competitive.
Shawnee
Renegades
Players to watch: Shawnee allowed just eight goals in the entire 2023 season, and the entire defensive unit returns intact, including South Jersey Goalie of the Year Mackenzie Borbi and South Jersey Defender of the Year Joellie Giquinto, both seniors. Borbi made 94 saves in her second year as the starter and Giquinto anchored the D at center back. They both made the all-conference first team along with senior center back Erin Doyle, an all-South Jersey third-teamer. Juniors Avery Kornafel, an all-conference second-teamer, and Lily Gove return as the outside backs, so opponents should find it difficult to break through once again. The offense is also impressive thanks to the return of junior midfielder Madelynn Sadusky, an all-conference first-teamer and all-South Jersey second-teamer who led the Renegades with 16 goals to go with 12 assists. She’ll have help on the attack from seniors Eva Matesich and Ceci Deroian, junior Courtney Davis and sophomores Caitlin Olkowski and Maddie Zaun. Junior Sophia Ryan returns in the midfield, while senior Riannon Sullivan adds depth on defense and junior Maddie Dubler is another experienced goalie.
Outlook: The Renegades are coming off a special season in which they went 19-2-2, advanced to the Coaches Cup semifinals, captured the South Jersey, Group 3 title and reached the state final for the first time in program history before falling in PKs. They will continue to set the bar high in 2024.
Washington Township
Minutemaids
Players to watch: Lexie Dzierzgowski emerged as one of the best strikers in the Tri-County Conference last year, as she led Washington Township with 12 goals and was second with five assists to make the all-conference first team. She is recovering from offseason surgery but hopes to return in October and go out on a high note before moving on to Division I St. Francis. Senior midfielder Alaina LaMonica can also make things happen in the attacking third, and other key returners in the midfield are senior Antonella Castorina and juniors Ava Ancone and Olivia McCullough. Junior Taylor Stuart is a top returning back and also contributes offensively, as shown by her five goals and two assists a year ago. Senior Jordyn Downs and juniors Nina Nocille and Hailey Kennedy are other experienced defenders, but the Minutemaids must find a new starting goalie to replace Lindsay Price. Senior Olivia Broadbelt and junior Brianna Weiss are in the mix to take over in goal. Faith Frizano and Anabel Pozniewski are other seniors being counted on.
Outlook: Washington Township’s 9-9-1 season included a playoff victory before the Minutemaids fell to eventual sectional champion Central Regional in the quarterfinals. They hope to make some noise in the Tri-County Royal Division under new head coach David Heil, a longtime club coach in the area.
