GMercyU is large enough to offer the academic, athletic and real-world learning you’re looking for, but small enough that professors know you by name.
Here you will find a caring and supportive environment and a deep commitment to making a difference – for yourself and for others.
Turn Your Passion into a Career
When choosing a college, GMercyU senior (class of ’25) and Haddon Heights High School graduate Shannon McLaughlin knew she wanted to continue playing softball and turn her love of sports into a career.
She chose to study sport management at GMercyU and has been a member of the softball team throughout her time on campus, serving as the team’s catcher and infielder.
Off the field, McLaughlin is a mentor for GMercyU’s Integrated Studies program and is a member of the Sport Business Association.
“I learned more about sport management than I ever could have imagined. Dr. Maddie Herman has been a fantastic mentor and advisor, teaching me the business aspects of the sports industry,” McLaughlin says.
Dr. Herman, like all GMercyU faculty, is an expert in her field and works one-on-one with students to learn about their careers and personal goals and set them up for post-graduation success.
“At the start of students’ first course, I pose two questions to students: ‘What is your dream job out of college?’ and ‘What is it at the pinnacle of your career?’ It informs how to shape each student’s experience to support their goals. Their goals often change as students discover more to love about the industry, which is always exciting,” Dr. Herman says.
No matter what your area of interest, GMercyU provides student-athletes with the ability to pursue all opportunities both on the field and off.
Kasey Wallace, GMercyU senior (class of ’25) and Audubon High School graduate, wanted to pursue a career helping others. He chose to study nursing at GMercyU, a university that has been preparing highly skilled, compassionate healthcare professionals for more than 60 years.
“The help I receive through my classmates and professors has not only guided me through the courses, but has also raised my own interest and passion for nursing,” says Wallace.
Despite the challenging major, Kasey is still able to participate in athletics and extracurricular activities. He’s a midfielder on the men’s soccer team and serves as the team’s representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Alongside his teammates and peers, Wallace also volunteers for sporting and campus-related events throughout the year.
