Stop Suffering!! Start Living!!
With two practices right here in South Jersey and one in Philadelphia, Dr. Rajan Gupta is helping his neighbors find relief from the pain they were once resigned to living with.

by Madeleine Maccar

“Having pain is inevitable, but living in pain is optional” is Dr. Gupta’s favorite quote.

Whether you’re dealing with pain inside or out, from your head to your toes, Dr. Rajan Gupta is here to help improve your quality of life – after all, his practice was founded with his favorite quote at its core.

Born and raised in India, Dr. Gupta began his medical training at the highly competitive Gujarat University, BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad, where “we get very good clinical exposure and the teachers are excellent, they really know their stuff.” He graduated from the prestigious Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, India, in 1995 before coming to the United States to continue his education, first to receive residency training at Pittsburgh’s St. Francis Medical Center (UPMC) and then for his intervention pain fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

For more than a decade, Dr. Gupta has been practicing pain management at his locations in both South Jersey and Philadelphia – and has earned countless professional awards, accolades and recognition since opening his doors, like being named to South Jersey Magazine’s Top Physicians and earning Philadelphia’s Top Doctors award consistently since 2017.

Drawing on both Dr. Gupta’s exhaustive education and vast experience as a medical practitioner, his multifaceted practice helps patients find relief in a number of ways, from painstakingly individualized treatments to better understanding their diagnoses through one-on-one conversations with Dr. Gupta, who also helps them navigate living with head, neck, arthritic, lower back, neuropathic and joint pain as they work together to find the right solution.

“The literal meaning of ‘doctor’ is ‘teacher,’ and I consider myself a very good teacher when it comes to telling the patient where the pain originates from and what I’m going to do for this pain,” says Dr. Gupta. “From there, we talk about the outcome that the patient is looking for and then setting the right expectation, rather than letting them move ahead with false expectations.”

As he notes the myriad aspects of pain, Dr. Gupta “doesn’t want to jump the gun” by proceeding with treatment before adequately identifying the root cause, since it’s far more effective to treat the source itself than the symptoms it generates.

“I’m equipped with the tools to examine a patient properly to reach a diagnosis before jumping into the treatment part,” he explains. “Pain is very subjective, so pain management is not a cookie-cutter treatment: You cannot just tell everyone with back pain or leg pain that they’re going to get an epidural. There are different areas where the pain could be coming from or different types of injections that are needed, and some people are OK to get injections while some are not. So it’s very individualized care that you have to give to each patient.”

With two conveniently located Camden County offices, Dr. Gupta endeavors to make life easier on his patients by providing them with specialized, world-class care right in their own backyard. The main Cherry Hill office is the Gupta Institute for Pain and Pain Instacare site, where patients seek treatment for the likes of headaches, neck pain, lower-back pain, joint pain and even personal-injury cases.

“We’ll have epidural injections, radiofrequency ablations, spinal injections plus any joint injections or any nerve block to identify where the pain is coming from and to also treat the problem,” Dr. Gupta says of the Cherry Hill practice. The Voorhees Pain Instacure location, he adds, offers alternative-medicine options for not only pain relief but also overall wellness, with natural solutions like Ayurvedic treatments’ system of natural medicine that originated in India more than 3,000 years ago, herbal medicine, yoga and meditation.

And while segmenting treatments into two practices helps ensure that everyone receives highly personalized care, Dr. Gupta also makes sure his patients aren’t traveling all throughout the region to find both the answers and relief they need.

“One thing patients love about us is our emphasis on diagnosis. The second thing is that we educate them by telling them where the pain’s coming from, what the treatment protocol would look like and what that outcome may look like,” Dr. Gupta begins. “The third thing – and a very important part of it – is that all interventions are done under X-ray guidance. All the spine interventions are done under X-ray guidance in both the offices… It’s kind of a luxury to have it in the office, but we have it so we don’t have to run into surgery centers or the hospital to provide that care.”

In addition to being an in-demand pain doctor, Dr. Gupta has also written a number of books, including The Briefcase Life and 7 Ways in 7 Days to Change Your Life, and even produced movies that all embody a life philosophy that “contentment is key” to finding joy in your life. It’s a philosophy that also underscores his medical mission of helping others live the most pain-free lives they can by providing holistic care to every patient who turns to him for help.

“The tagline for Pain Instacare is ‘The best pain relief possible,’ and the tagline for the Gupta Institute for Pain, is ‘Stop suffering, start living,’” Dr. Gupta says. “For both, it shows that we put a lot of emphasis on stopping the patients’ suffering so they can live better and without any pain.”
