The Art of Self-Love
Metropolitan Plastic Surgery stands out as a purveyor of beauty, wellness, and self-confidence by providing a wide range of innovative services and procedures.

by Carly Murray

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and no perception is more important than an individual’s self-image. A boost in confidence is life changing, opening doors for new opportunities manifested by that newfound love for one’s self. Whether a person desires a subtle alteration or a whole new look, Dr. Julia Spears provides her patients with gorgeous results.

Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Spears completed her M.D. in 1996, and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery with specializations in plastic cosmetic surgery. In addition to her extensive education and experience with local hospitals, she has instructed others as a Temple University professor of plastic surgery and assistant program director of a residency program.

The in-depth knowledge obtained from both practicing and teaching the next generation of plastic surgeons requires attention to detail, an emphasis on safety and an astute comprehension of aesthetics tailored to each individual. These attributes were carried forth into Dr. Spears’ own practice, making Metropolitan Plastic Surgery categorical of excellence and dedicated to providing a personalized experience and thorough patient education.

“We are a very boutique practice that really focuses on the individual and the needs of that individual. We definitely know we’re small and cater to everybody’s wishes, and we know all of our patients very well. We’re one of the few women [led] practices in the area, and that allows us to have a woman’s viewpoint and unique perspective on aesthetics,” she says.

Dr. Spears’ perfectionist approach extends to treatments for the whole body –injectables, lifts and tucks, minimizations and enhancements. While Metropolitan Plastic Surgery’s procedures look great for all genders, there is extra consideration toward helping women feel good about their bodies. Such examples include mommy makeovers and multiple options of breast procedures that offer both confidence and comfort.

“With breast reductions, you find that there’s reduced risk of cancer, as well as a reduction of back and shoulder pain from wearing bras that are really uncomfortable. [Patients] are exercising better… they just feel so much more comfortable with their bodies,” says Dr. Spears.

As the treatments available extend to the whole community, male patients may seek services such as liposuction, Botox, hair removal and gynecomastia treatment that removes unwanted breast gland tissue. Each weight loss option made available at Metropolitan Plastic Surgery aims to treat every concern at the source, with a focus on the underlying cause.

With Metropolitan Plastic Surgery’s emphasis on providing patients with the most in-demand cosmetic transformations, it is no wonder that one of Dr. Spears’ most popular options is a new weight-loss program with semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic. The weight loss program has been the practice’s focus in recent months, with an emphasis on not only the injection phase, but the before and after.

“You emotionally feel better when you look better. When you fit into your clothes, you feel good about yourself once you’ve had this kind of procedure done. So there’s certainly the psychological and emotional benefits. But also, in some cases with the weight reduction after the procedure, you may find decreased insulin needs and better blood sugar control.”

Afterward, Dr. Spears guides her patients toward longevity with behavioral modification and a diet plan. Once again, her knack for fully educating patients after becoming familiar with individual habits and goals ensures optimal, lasting results. Every detail is accounted for, such as minimizing excess skin with the advancements of microneedling, radiofrequency and Renuvion – a minimally invasive skin smoothing technology. Liposuction is a very popular option for body contouring as well, and Metropolitan Plastic Surgery strives beyond the standard of perfection.

“It’s really now liposculpture rather than just liposuction. We’re doing the liposuction, but we’re using ultrasound assisted. We are also doing the Renuvion on top of that to tighten the skin, which is plasma, so it’s really getting better and better results,” explains Dr. Spears. “It’s something that you can see. I have patients that come in that have had cool sculpting several times and they’re not seeing those results. With liposuction, you actually see the fat leave the body. It’s gone, it’s not going to come back – it really is incredible what it can do.”

Regardless of what patients are looking for, Dr. Spears is there to help them find the best choice for their unique desires and lifestyles. Her breadth of knowledge alleviates misconceptions and anxieties, allowing patients to make a confident and well-informed choice before embarking on this life-enhancing journey. Metropolitan Plastic Surgery makes cosmetic dreams a reality, as Dr. Spears and her team continue to strive for nothing short of the best.
