Look Good, Feel Better
Suburban Family spoke to local professionals who encompass different niches of innovative beauty and health modifications to help diminish wellness concerns.

by Carly Murray

Springtime represents renewal, beauty and transformation – and local spas, doctors and medical centers offer life-changing cosmetic and health solutions. These aesthetic programs help an individual achieve self-love, healthier lifestyles and more. Personal insecurities, while not always noticeable to others, can have an effect on mental health. Opting for a change or a tweak can get people ready for a confident summer at the beach, but it can also make them happier on a daily basis when looking in the mirror.

Weight Loss and Nutrition Programs
Consulting an expert for weight loss can help shed anywhere from 10 to 200 pounds, while creating a personalized plan. Everyone has different goals, and since many are unsure of where to begin, one might need some assistance. For many, it is extremely difficult to lose weight despite efforts of dieting and exercise.

“There’s a hormone system that regulates appetite, and in obesity, that system is often faulty. That causes patients to have a lot of hunger and makes it more difficult for them to feel full. Losing weight is really challenging when you have a faulty hormone system that regulates your appetite,” says Dr. Elyse Dishler of Medical Weight Loss of Cherry Hill.

Double board-certified in family medicine and obesity medicine, Dr. Dishler’s practice was formed to help people who feel they are out of options for weight loss. It is a common misconception that medical weight loss is strictly for aesthetic purposes. While the cosmetic results are jaw-dropping, so is the ability to negate common risks associated with obesity. These include heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and some cancers, among other detrimental effects.

The comprehensive approach to bariatric medicine consists of getting to know a patient’s goals, history and medical concerns. There are different options to truly individualize the process such as several FDA-approved weight-loss medications and semaglutide injections. Afterwards, a nutrition program ensures strong results.

IV Drips
Another personalized approach to health is IV drips, a medical technique that delivers wellness needs directly and efficiently. Vitamins can be selected for anything from an energy or mood boost, to weight loss and hormone treatments. For example, with The Garden Med Spa’s Infusions By Design IV Vitamin Therapy, specialized combinations of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are designated to the mental and physical ailments that they are proven to diminish.

“The drips are formulated to correct specific symptoms like headaches, fatigue and brain fog. They also are a great addition to the treatment plans of chronic conditions. … We have captured the perfect protocols for all of our clients’ unique needs,” says Garden Med Spa’s Leah Gallagher, nurse practitioner and founder of Infusions by Design.

With this method, vitamins are better absorbed than oral options that have to go through the digestive tract. The treatment can take between 20 minutes and two hours, and is adjusted to a client’s tolerance level.

For beauty that works from the inside and exudes out, IV drips can provide a healthy glow while providing solutions to depression, fatigue, insomnia, hypertension, anxiety and much more – there are even concoctions that help boost the immune system.

Plastic Surgery
In the medically advanced area of South Jersey, it is no surprise that the options for plastic surgery are wide-ranging and state-of-the-art. Beautiful results require little-to-no downtime or pain, and are also custom-fit to each patient.

Dr. Julia Spears, a board-certified doctor at Metropolitan Plastics, advises, “During a consultation your concerns can be discussed… It depends on what the issue is, and a treatment plan can be developed that would suit the person’s needs and lifestyle.”

Dr. Spears offers Botox, fillers, peels and laser treatments, among other procedures, which can also lead to medical solutions. Botox can treat an array of medical problems like migraines and chronic jaw pain.

Many procedures also offer the benefit of making one’s life more convenient. Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy allows for a permanent solution for most patients to eliminate the tedious and frequent task of shaving, plucking or waxing. It also improves the skin’s texture and sun pigmentation without surgery.

IPL therapy, Botox and filler can save the cost and frustration of trying multiple anti-aging creams, and may reduce the amount of makeup purchased and utilized.

Permanent Makeup
Permanent makeup is another life transformation that makes the getting ready process quicker and easier. With options like permanent eyeliner, eyebrows and lip liner, one can achieve their ideal look 24/7. This is beneficial to effortless beach days with no need to agonize about water or smearing. Beau Institute by Rizzieri offers these services as well as microblading, lip blushing and shading.

Their board-certified permanent makeup professionals also offer “paramedical tattooing, which includes 3D areola/nipple tattooing for breast cancer survivors as well as scar camouflage. For men and women who are losing their hair, we offer scalp micropigmentation as a solution,” says Rosa Guilardi, director of operations.

The multitude of formulated selections in medical beauty and health have perfected techniques down to a science, leading to a happier and healthier individual.
