Making a Splash

by Carly Murray

South Jersey locals know that an all-inclusive getaway is right around the corne – one that’s much closer, safer, cleaner and amusement-packed than a trip to the Shore. Big Kahuna’s Water Park in West Berlin not only boasts both indoor and outdoor water parks but also offers an arcade, private cabanas, and a reimagined island-inspired setting with themed food and drinks.

Beth Twisler, the corporate director of sales and marketing at APX Operating Co. dba Boomers Parks and Big Kahuna’s Water Parks, explains that “the park has undergone a refreshing rebrand, transforming it into a delightful island time escape where guests can immerse themselves in fun without feeling intimidated. Big Kahuna’s has become the go-to destination for families and friends seeking an unforgettable water park adventure.”

Big Kahuna’s accommodates any interest and any age for water-based attractions, but one of many elements that sets the park apart is its consideration of smaller children, too. While there are thrilling slides for older kids, parents can relax knowing their little ones are accounted for in a “fun-sized” oasis or water playground. The areas intended for younger ages are also separate from any possible collision with bigger kids and adults in the midst of all of the excitement. And for the youngsters who want to try all of the 15-plus rides and slides, parents can still rest assured that there are trained and certified lifeguards on duty.

“Our water park provides an extensive range of water attractions, whether they are heart-pounding water slides, tranquil pools or immersive experiences like the mat racers and the wave pool. Every aspect of Big Kahuna’s was designed for our team to deliver the ultimate safe, clean and fun water park destination experience,” Twisler says.

The outdoor water park offers an array of attractions, including Tidal Waves’ 12,000- square-foot wave pool, leisurely swimming in Hibiscus Bay and the toddler-friendly Little Kahuna Lagoon. Inside, the indoor water park features designated play areas for kids, a relaxing leisure pool, adventurous river, mat racing, boogie boarding and water raft experiences. There are also challenging obstacle courses, an aquatic basketball arena and a thrilling 350-foot-long, super-fast body slide. There is no shortage of excitement at Big Kahuna’s, making it a place where cherished memories are created.

And even though it might be nearing the end of summer weather, Big Kahuna’s operates all year with a weatherproof, state-of-the-art retractable roof over the indoor water park. This certainly comes in handy for a taste of summer during the winter, but also for New Jersey’s signature, unpredictable weather. For this reason, ruined plans do not exist at Big Kahuna’s. Furthermore, children with birthdays during winter months can now experience the once-impossible summer pool party of their dreams.

“Big Kahuna’s is an excellent choice for parties and special occasions. We have value-packed party packages to select from. Many include access to a private party room; some include cabanas, and they all include delicious food and drink. We host parties year-round and we can cater to any party budget,” says Twisler.

Big Kahuna’s specializes in water-based entertainment, ensuring top-notch quality in its water park slides and attractions through its niche expertise. This specialized focus enables the park to prioritize and to deliver exceptional guest service. Groups that book in advance not only access discount tickets and meal deal options, but they also receive perks like expedited park entry and one free adult chaperone with every 10 paid admissions.

Big Kahuna’s remains conscious of all guests and their ability to access the wonder and excitement of their park, catering to a variety of needs with a personal flair. In addition to accessibility with zero-depth entry areas and chair lifts, Big Kahuna’s hosts special-needs events for sensory-sensitive individuals that take place with modifications made to the park, allowing for a safe and judgment-free experience. Big Kahuna’s is currently in the process of becoming a Certified Autism Center.

Although the park is perfect for a day trip, partnered hotels in the area offer “stay and play” packages. Tailoring the experience to each family is easy, and can be relaxing, riveting or a combination. And a long day of sliding, swimming and playing allows kids to enjoy being active—leaving them fulfilled and ready to relax.

Now one can enjoy the water and quality time with family and friends without dealing with sand, inclement weather or endlessly searching for parking (at Big Kahuna’s, it’s free). For the inevitable scenario that guests want to come back again and again for a getaway close to home, season passes are available for unlimited visits all year.
