Bishop Eustace Crusaders
Players to watch:
Maddie DiLemme had big shoes to fill in her first year as a starter at Bishop Eustace, since she was replacing an all-state goalie. Fortunately, she was up to the challenge, as she recorded 195 saves as a sophomore and was named to the all-conference first team and all-South Jersey second team. It will be exciting to see what she can accomplish as a junior. Senior midfielder Blaire Sparks is another key returner who scored 14 goals and assisted on 11 more to make the all-conference second team. Junior midfielder Josette DeGour will also be counted on as a playmaker after collecting seven goals and 16 assists on her way to all-conference second-team honors. Senior Brianna Bigos, junior Cate Carney and sophomore Anna Marquardt are offensive contributors as well. Other veterans hoping to have an impact are seniors Paige Baylock and Sophia Dwyer.

Outlook: As usual, the Crusaders were one of the top 20 teams in the state in 2021 as they went 16-7 and reached the sectional final. They have some key positions to fill this fall but expect to remain a contender.

Camden Catholic Fighting Irish
Players to watch:
The dynamic duo of Olivia Bent-Cole and Ava Moore has one more season at Camden Catholic to add to an already-impressive list of accomplishments. Both made the all-conference and all-South Jersey first teams and the all-state second team last year. Bent-Cole, a senior midfielder/forward, is one of the fastest players in New Jersey and used her speed to score 46 goals and notch 17 assists as a junior. A Northwestern commit, she is closing in on 100 career goals. Moore, a senior midfielder, collected 33 goals and 22 assists last fall and will head to Wake Forest in 2023. There is plenty of talent beyond the two stars, including sophomore midfielder Isabella Moore, who had a memorable freshman season with nine goals, five assists and recognition as an all-conference first-teamer. Junior midfielder Olivia Stazi (seven goals, 19 assists) made the all-conference second team, and other offensive contributors are senior forwards Madeline Armstrong and Jacki Connolly and junior forwards Kayla Dever and Isabel Rotaeche. Experienced defenders include juniors Reagan Stauts and sophomore Dani Brown, while senior Valerie Concepcion and junior Emily Nicholls are candidates to take over as the starting goalie. Other returners expected to contribute are seniors Amelia Calzaretto and Giovana Rizzo, juniors Beatrice Daverso, Caroline Holfelner, Erin Houlihan, Evangeline Mazzochette and Marcella Mangano and sophomores Madison Logan, Alahna Shelton, Sophia Loperfido and Kathryn Rafter.

Outlook: The Irish reached their fifth consecutive sectional final, captured their third straight title and made it to the state championship game in a special 2021 season. They finished with a 21-3 record, with the only losses coming to Eastern and Oak Knoll, the two teams that met in the Tournament of Champions final. With Bent-Cole and Moore leading the charge, Camden Catholic should be one of the state’s elite squads once again.

Cherokee Chiefs
Players to watch:
Cherokee graduated a stellar senior class and doesn’t have many seniors on this year’s roster, but the Chiefs are excited about the potential in the junior class. The group includes forward Izzy Amelio, who scored three goals as a sophomore, and Ellie Gipe, a returning starter on defense. Junior midfielders Ella Thompson, Elena Kelly and Laney Errickson have also taken significant steps forward in the offseason and are ready for bigger roles. Senior forward Erin St. John, a part-time starter last year, joins Amelio as a key offensive playmaker, and defender Ashley Weinberg is another senior hoping to earn a starting job. Sophomore Victoria Geissler saw time as a rookie and is a likely starter in the midfield.

Outlook: The Chiefs went 14-6 last fall, their most wins in a season in at least a decade, and reached the sectional quarterfinals before suffering a 4-1 loss to eventual Tournament of Champions winner Eastern. There are some big shoes to fill but they hope to remain competitive.

Cherry Hill East Cougars
Players to watch:
Senior midfielder Sami Bloom returns as the leader for Cherry Hill East and she is primed for a big season before continuing her career at Montclair State. She will be counted on as one of the team’s primary scorers while also helping to lock things down defensively. Two other key returning starters—and part of a large contingent of seniors on the roster—are center midfielder Kiran Muttathil and midfielder/defender Katie Bristow. Sophomore Maggie Pierlott started as a rookie and is an important piece of the defense. Several JV players from last year and a few freshmen who could make an impact right away are expected to fill out the starting lineup.

Outlook: New head coach Jamie Robertson brings a ton of experience on the field and on the bench to the Cougars. A field hockey and softball player at Cherry Hill West, she is currently the head coach for the softball and swimming teams at Timber Creek. She is excited about the numbers in the program and expects the girls to show improvement throughout the year.

Cherry Hill West Lions
Players to watch
: Cherry Hill West brings back a promising offensive core led by a trio of sophomores and two senior leaders. Forward Tatum Woods had a memorable rookie season as she tied for the team lead with 23 goals and added 13 assists to earn all-conference first-team accolades. Sophomore forward Karine Johnson (10 goals, five assists) and sophomore midfielder Addison Petti (seven goals, four assists) will also look to build on their solid debuts. Senior forwards Mia Zaris (12 goals, three assists) and Alena Stewart (three goals) are other proven finishers, and the Lions’ balanced attack also includes senior forwards Mackenzie DeSilvio and Samantha Johns. At the other end of the field, junior Rebecca Armstrong is an experienced goalie and key returners in front of her are seniors Hailey Milligan and Hanna Porowski. Junior Emma Chorzelewski and seniors Mia Harron and Julia Green are contributors in the midfield.

Outlook: Cherry Hill West has made tremendous strides as a program and finished 12-10 with a playoff win in its best season in years last fall. The Lions have the pieces in place to ride the forward momentum.

Clearview Pioneers
Players to watch:
Senior forward/midfielder Darian DeLeo has been an impact player for Clearview since her freshman year and is primed for a big final season before moving on to La Salle. She had 26 goals and 12 assists as a junior to make the all-South Jersey and all-conference first teams. Senior midfielder Gabby Andres is another key returner who had nine goals and three assists to make the all-conference first team and all-South Jersey second team. Senior Ryan Remaly, an outstanding athlete who is headed to Army for lacrosse, adds offensive punch along with sophomores Makenzie Dutch and Alaina Lomonaco and junior Destiny Joseph. Senior Christina Unger (165 saves) is back as the starting goalie, and other contributors are seniors Brielle Sharkey and Ava Lomonaco. Ella Gandy, previously a Junior Olympic MVP, and Julianna Racobaldo are two freshmen who have turned heads during summer training and are expected to step in right away at the varsity level.

Outlook: The Pioneers were up and down during the regular season in 2021 but still made a run to the sectional semifinals before dropping a close loss to Ocean City. With DeLeo and Andres leading the way, this season is shaping up as a successful one.

Eastern Vikings
Players to watch
: Change is once again in the air at Eastern, as an outstanding senior class graduated and the fourth new head coach in four seasons will be taking over the program. The departures from last year include one of the best players in school history, Ryleigh Heck—who set a single-season national record with 125 goals last year and scored 323 in her remarkable career—as well as her mom Kerry, who stepped down after filling in as head coach for a year. On the bright side, there are several talented players ready to emerge as leaders, including senior back Devin Baraldi, who made the all-conference second team. Senior Laci Coppola is another veteran defender and is committed to Quinnipiac. The offense is paced by junior forward Olivia White, who had 19 goals and seven assists as a sophomore to make the all-conference second team, and senior forward Brooke Ruiz (13 goals, seven assists), who will continue her career at Belmont Abbey. Senior forward Bella Spina is another offensive spark and senior Maura Somers, a Fairfield commit, is a key player in the midfield. Sophomore Gabby Hoffmaster is a candidate to take over as the starting goalie. Other returners hoping to contribute are senior Samantha Ryan and sophomores Valentina Barone, Grace Carnival, Maisey Mosier, Melany Mosier, Brynn Somers, Natalia Ulbin and Talia Zuccarelli.

Outlook: The Vikings captured the last Tournament of Champions title ever in dramatic fashion, as White tied the championship against Oak Knoll late in the game and Heck won it on the final play to cap a 25-2 season. Eastern might not be at the same level this year but the standards will remain high for the program under the new head coach, who had not been named as of press time.

Gloucester Catholic Rams
Players to watch:
A solid core is back for Gloucester Catholic, including its two best offensive players, junior forward Bridget Taney and senior Adrianna Green. Taney led the Rams with 10 goals and 11 assists, while Green added eight goals and also shined at the defensive end of the field to make the all-conference team. Junior forward Casey Green (six goals) and sophomore forwards Makenzie Biondi (four goals) and Sienna Gianotti (three assists) are other key offensive contributors. Senior Teagan O’Neill (75 saves) is entering her third year as the starting goalie and junior Emily McGinn is an experienced defender in front of her. Other returners hoping to have an impact are juniors Geidy Gomez and Zoie Mantzell and sophomores Emily Dunlap, Rhian Haller and Morgan McManus.

Outlook: The Rams made terrific progress last year, compiling an 8-9 record and hosting a playoff game following a winless season in 2020. They hope to see continued improvement and contend for a winning season.

Haddonfield Bulldawgs
Players to watch:
Senior Moira Geiger enters her fourth year as the starting goalie for Haddonfield and is looking forward to a terrific year in the cage before continuing her career at Rider. She made 145 saves as a junior and was rewarded with all-conference second-team honors. Two other all-conference second-teamers return, and both are defensive-minded as well: junior back Megan Marthins and senior midfielder Allie Brown. The Bulldawgs also have talent at the other end of the field, as senior forward Karlie Warner is back after leading the team with 10 goals and 15 assists. Other playmakers are junior forward Lena Stolarick (eight goals, 10 assists), sophomore forward Olivia Marthins (seven goals, three assists) and senior forward Julie Marthins (three goals). Sophomore forward Ava Poliafico showed promise as a rookie and junior Teagan Braman is a top player in the midfield. Senior Brynn Bickel will have a bigger impact in the backfield after missing eight games last year with a fractured finger. Veterans expected to make an impact are seniors Emmy Barrett, Chloe Genzel and Kelsie Meeker and juniors Paige Esemplare and Molly McGannon.

Outlook: The Bulldawgs saw their amazing streak of six straight sectional final appearances come to an end last year as they dropped a close game to Haddon Heights in the semifinals to finish with an 11-8-2 record. They will be hungry to start another streak this fall.

Kingsway Dragons
Players to watch:
Kingsway graduated a stellar senior class that featured two all-South Jersey first-team selections, but the cupboard is far from bare. A strong returning core includes three veteran leaders in junior forward Sabrina McGroarty, senior forward/midfielder Colleen Finnan and senior midfielder Ella Stephenson. McGroarty followed up her strong freshman season by scoring 29 goals and adding six assists as a sophomore to make the all-conference first team and all-South Jersey second team. Finnan, a Villanova commit, collected 18 goals and 13 assists, while Stephenson, a Lehigh recruit, added five goals and 19 assists on her way to all-conference honors. Other scoring threats are sophomore forward Karlie Mertz and Grace Hunter and junior midfielder Mary Wordelmann. Senior Allie Patel, who will continue her career at West Chester, is a key returner in the midfielder and leaders on defense are juniors MK Finnan and Madison Rothwein. Sophomore Soren Kipphut hopes to emerge as the starting goalie and sophomore Erin Callahan will also look to strengthen the defense.

Outlook: The Dragons have been a top-10 team in the state in recent seasons and hope to remain there after compiling a 19-3 record and reaching the sectional final in 2021. Their only losses came to state powers Eastern, Oak Knoll and Camden Catholic.

Lenape Indians
Players to watch:
Lenape graduated both of its conference all-stars and will be counting on new standouts this fall. Junior defenders Brooke Halfpenny and Julia Moon are both three-year starters who could be ready for leadership roles. Senior Alyssa Weber is the leading returning scorer, while junior forwards Sydney Depativo and Sierro Volpe are also threats to find the cage and Halfpenny contributes offensively as well. Junior Ryann Weber will be a player to watch in the midfield and junior Kasey Thomas will compete for the starting goalie job. Juniors Kaylee Carson, Rylee Carson, Caroline Cristella and Alexis Dugan will push for time as well.

Players to watch: Lenape graduated both of its conference all-stars and will be counting on new standouts this fall. This year’s junior class gives Lenape solid skill all over the field; many with varsity experience already. Leading the defense is returning starter Caroline Cristella along with fellow juniors Kaylee Carson and Julia Moon, who was sidelined last season by an ankle injury. Juniors Brooke Halfpenny and Ryann Weber will step into key roles in the midfield, while Sydney DePativo and Sierra Volpe will lead the attack. Senior Alyssa Weber has three years of varsity experience and will be a big playmaker offensively and defensively, and seniors Emma O'Neill and Evelyn Pazan will also look to contribute for Lenape in the midfield. Junior Rylee Carson and sophomores Brooke Hughes and Xan Wallenhurts will look to break into the lineup as well.

Outlook: The Indians’ 4-11-2 season ended with a 1-0 loss to top-seeded Kingsway in the first round of the playoffs as they proved they could hang with one of the best teams in the state. They hope to carry the momentum over to 2022 and contend for a winning record.

Moorestown Quakers
Players to watch:
Moorestown brings back a talented core from last year’s sectional championship squad, with seniors Ava Tilger and Izzy Leese at the front of the pack. Tilger, a midfielder/defender, had six goals and eight assists to make the all-South Jersey and all-conference first teams. She will continue her career at Georgetown. Leese, a forward, led the Quakers with 14 goals and added four assists to earn all-conference first-team and all-South Jersey second-team recognition. Three other all-conference players are back: senior defender Madison Berardi, a first-teamer, and second-teamers Paige Hummel and Adelae Chierici. Hummel, a junior midfielder, had four goals and eight assists, and Chierici, a sophomore forward, scored 10 goals and handed out three assists as a rookie. Junior Sydney Kowalczyk is another scoring option and senior Elizabeth Maguire contributes at several positions. Sophomore Soph Mazza will look to become the starting goalie after serving as the backup last year. Seniors Cathryn Bogart, Laney Pascual and Reagan Reiner, juniors Erin Coughlin and Rosie Rockwell and sophomore Marley Procopio hope to make an impact.

Outlook: The Quakers struggled toward the end of the 2021 regular season but rebounded to claim a sectional title and reach the state championship game before suffering a 1-0 loss to North Hunterdon to finish with a 13-7-1 record. They will look to end up in that familiar situation again this fall.

Moorestown Friends Foxes
Players to watch:
Tia Obermeier followed up her solid sophomore season by raising her game up a notch and making the all-conference first team as a junior. She scored eight goals and led Moorestown Friends with seven assists and will once again be an offensive force as a senior. Juniors Olivia Neri and Isabella Didie and sophomore Maya DeAndrea also hope to contribute to the attack. Sophomore goalie Madelyn Calixto saw some time in the cage as a freshman and could move into the starting role. Veterans to watch are juniors Amaya Beatty and Alicia Leung.

Outlook: The Foxes’ 6-11 season last fall ended with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Holy Spirit in the first round of the playoffs. They will look to build on that effort and put together a consistent campaign in 2022.

Paul VI Eagles
Players to watch:
Junior forward Tori Morrison and senior forward Katie Gleason were among the team leaders in goals for Paul VI last year and will look to emerge as go-to scorers this fall. Morrison found the cage eight times to go with seven assists and Gleason added seven goals. Juniors Samantha Flynn (four goals, seven assists) and Isabella Farnoly (three goals) and sophomore Amelia Niven (five goals, two assists) will also be counted on offensively. The task of preventing goals, meanwhile, will fall to senior Kapri Jackson and junior Ava McCarthy, who are both experienced goalies. The Eagles have plenty of senior leadership and are happy to welcome back Mackenzie Connelly, Buernaki Puplampu and Sophia Reitano, while juniors to keep an eye on are Victoria Atkinson and Grace Vigilante. Sophomores Bailee Hocker, Carlyn McKendrick and Sophia Greenwood got varsity minutes as rookies and will look to build on their potential.

Outlook: The Eagles’ 5-15 record last year included a 5-0 playoff win over Gloucester Catholic. They have a promising roster and hope to show improvement under new head coach Alli Kershner.

Seneca Golden Eagles
Players to watch:
Several key players from a stingy defense that allowed less than two goals per game are back to lead Seneca. That includes junior Kyleigh Welusz, a starter since her freshman year and an all-conference first-team selection as a sophomore. Sophomore Maddie Stillwell joins Welusz on the back line after earning all-conference second-team honors as a rookie, while senior Lila King, a Montclair State commit, and junior Avery Madosky are other experienced defenders. They have a strong goalie behind them in junior Kelsey Besser, who recorded 66 saves a year ago. There is plenty of scoring punch as well thanks to the return of all-conference second-teamer Addison Rivera (seven goals) and her fellow senior forward, Alyssa Holtz (five goals). Sophomore forward Ava Thomas collected 12 goals and six assists in an excellent rookie campaign and other playmakers are junior forward Kylee Donegan (eight goals, five assists) and junior midfielder/back Riley McClelland (six goals, four assists). Welusz and Stillwell can also make things happen offensively. Also expected to contribute are senior Kelly Carbone, juniors Emma Buttcovla, Eva Julius and Jayna Phillips and sophomore Josephine Perrin.

Outlook: The Golden Eagles extended their streak of sectional championships to five in a row and compiled a 16-7-1 record in another memorable season. Expect more success in 2022.

Shawnee Renegades
Players to watch:
Shawnee’s strong senior class includes Brooke Summerville, the anchor of the defense and an all-conference first-team selection as a junior, along with forwards Emily Cavicchio and Kayla Gray. Cavicchio, a Montclair State commit, and Gray each scored seven goals, and will be key offensive threats along with sophomore forward Abby Davidson, who had eight goals and four assists as a rookie to make the all-conference second team. Junior Angie Cooker is another experienced forward and junior Liv Martino is a top player in the midfield. Junior Charlotte Kent joins Summerville on defense along with seniors Madisyn Wingate and Alyssa Caldini. Senior Quinlyn Moll has experience in the cage and will look to become the starting goalie. Juniors Harper Perry and Maddy Huston and sophomores Leah Bruchansky, Kasey Abbott and Elena Bonfrisco are hoping to play important roles as well.

Outlook: The Renegades notched impressive wins over Moorestown and Cherokee to end the 2021 regular season and earned two playoff wins to reach the sectional semifinals before ending the year with a 10-8-1 mark. Shawnee should again be a dangerous team capable of hanging with the best in the area.

Washington Township Minutemaids
Players to watch:
A host of underclassmen gained valuable experience for Washington Township last fall and it will be interesting to see how they progress. One of the key players in that group is sophomore midfielder Ryli Zee, who makes her presence felt all over the field. She had two goals and four assists and made the all-conference second team as a rookie. Sophomore forwards Karley DuCoin (eight goals, six assists) and Emma-Rose Phillips (five goals, two assists) showcased an ability to make things happen offensively as freshmen, and they will be playmakers in 2022 along with junior midfielder Brooke Alessandrini (three goals, four assists). Senior Olivia Wisor is making the transition from goalie to field player and will serve as captain along with senior Emily Wechter and Alessandrini. Juniors Ava Porreco and Megan Sheldrick are veterans expected to contribute.

Outlook: It’s a new era at Washington Township, as the Minutemaids will not only be moving from the Olympic into the Tri-County Conference, but will be doing so with a new head coach. Jeannine O’Connor retired after 21 years at the helm, and her successor, Ashley Johnson, will look to make it a smooth transition as the Minutemaids try to improve on last year's 8-11 record.
