BOYS LACROSSE
BISHOP EUSTACE CRUSADERS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Bishop Eustace was hit hard by graduation, with nine all-conference players moving on. Leading the returners is senior attack/midfielder Alec Morano, who recorded 31 goals, nine assists and 20 ground balls as a junior. He will continue his career at Rhodes College in Tennessee. Senior Craig Yates, junior Bryan Hartman and sophomore Lorenzo Carletti are contributors in the midfield and sophomore Cole Farrell could emerge as a key player at attack along with junior Matt Heiser. Junior Jim Gruccio is a veteran defender/long stick midfielder and junior JC Marion will look to take over as the starting goalie. Additional experienced players include juniors Luke Baines at attack, Peter Buck at attack/midfield and Tom Ciampi on defense.
OUTLOOK: The Crusaders’ 15-3 season featured a perfect 10-0 mark in the Olympic Conference National Division and a berth in the sectional semifinals. Although the lineup will look drastically different this spring, they hope to remain competitive.
CHEROKEE CHIEFS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Midfielder Jordan Hayes has been a top player for Cherokee since his freshman year and is poised for a big senior season before moving on to Towson. He made the all-conference and all-South Jersey second teams as a junior. Senior attack Gaurav Dravida is another important piece of the offense who had a breakout season last spring to make the all-conference second team. Seniors AJ Pasquarello and Jonah Gil are key returners at attack and junior Zach Litty is back in the midfield. Senior Will Smith—who will continue his career at Christopher Newport— leads the defense after making the all-conference first team as a junior, and junior Logan Rhoads is another top player on D. Seniors Dylan O’Mara and Josh Pol are other veteran defenders and senior Max Voiro is expected to emerge as the new starting goalie.
OUTLOOK: After two rare down seasons, the Chiefs bounced back in a big way last spring by going 14-5 and reaching the sectional semifinals. This has the look of another winning season.
CHERRY HILL EAST COUGARS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Although Cherry Hill East graduated a strong senior class— including Eric Sherman, who finished his career with more than 200 points— there is still reason for optimism. Senior midfielder Brendon Porras returns as the Cougars’ faceoff specialist; he also set a school record for ground balls in a game and recorded 137 on the season. Senior Harrison Gutin is back as the starting goalie and has a solid defense in front of him led by juniors Colin Cunningham and Michael Wheeler and sophomore Dan Yasenchak. Junior attack Sam Stoffman was third on the team with 25 goals and will look to become the go-to scorer. Sophomore attack Rei O’Brien tallied 10 goals in a promising rookie campaign and top players in the midfield who will contribute offensively are senior Andy Murphy and juniors Chris Lembo and Jacob Holland. Other returners expected to have an impact are senior Brandon Weinstock and juniors Robert Rojas and Vicente Gracias.
OUTLOOK: The Cougars have a talented core returning from last year’s 10-8 team, which lost in the first round of the playoffs. They hope to remain competitive and put together a longer run in the postseason.
CHERRY HILL WEST LIONS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Cherry Hill West’s major strength is at the defensive end of the field, where seniors Charlie Williams, Mike Alberto, Michael Apoldo and Luke Fabian and junior John Iannucci all return with experience. Fresh- man Nick Aristone will also look to make an impact at long stick midfielder, and senior goalie Aaron Bernard is expected to replace four-year starter Will Marble in net. Senior Jacob Meyers is an experienced faceoff specialist and junior John Howe will also be a factor at the faceoff X in addition to contributing as an offensive midfielder. Senior Thomas Coyle will move from defense to midfield and attack and should be a force at both positions, while junior Patrick Green and sophomore AJ Giannopoulos are also being counted on in the midfield. Senior Brett Fowler and juniors Jack Begley, Kenny Dango and Calvin Aliferov will try to spark the offense at attack.
OUTLOOK: The Lions hope to be more competitive and add a few wins to their total as they move into a new division with the likes of Triton, Timber Creek, Highland and Williamstown. They also have a new coach in Jim Scerbo, the school’s former head football coach who was also an assistant for the Kingsway lacrosse program when his sons were star players there.
CLEARVIEW PIONEERS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Clearview only graduated four players from last year’s team, so a lot of returners gained valuable experience. Leading the way is junior midfielder Sean McAllister, who scored a team-high 24 goals to go with six assists. Senior midfielder Aidan Burns is another important piece of the offense; he netted six goals despite missing much of the season with various injuries. Juniors Jackson Heilig and Aidan Burrow and senior Riley Ferguson will also contribute offensively. Junior Brendan McSorley is a top returner on defense and senior Chase McFeeley is back as the starting goalie. Junior Ian Wilkinson also saw time as an underclassman.
OUTLOOK: The Pioneers went 5-13 with a playoff victory and reached the sectional quarterfinals during a rebuilding season in 2018. It would not be surprising to see them make serious strides with most of the roster back.
EASTERN VIKINGS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Eastern is paced by a standout senior class, including three players who made the all-conference second team last year: Ethan Shacket, Dean Carnival and Nick Ciampoli. Shacket, a midfielder and one of the Vikings’ cap- tains, had 21 goals, 18 assists and 25 ground balls. Carnival—who is committed to Lafayette—is another top midfielder and faceoff specialist who registered 22 goals and 82 ground balls. Ciampoli had four goals and 18 ground balls and leads the defense along with senior Stephen Hanscom, a captain who will play college lacrosse at Fairleigh Dickinson. Senior Shane Bakley (11 goals) and junior Mason Morano will have an impact at attack.
OUTLOOK: The Vikings’ 9-9 record last year included a playoff win and a trip to the sectional quarterfinals. They should contend for a winning season behind their seniors.
GLOUCESTER CATHOLIC RAMS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior Sean Beers has already left his mark at Gloucester Catholic and has one more season to add to his accomplishments before continuing his career at Cabrini. The program’s all-time leading scorer, he tied his own single-season school record of 57 goals last year. Beers also had 26 assists to make the all-conference first team. Sophomore Kellen Hurst is another dangerous player at attack; he had 38 goals and 10 assists as a rookie. Senior long stick midfielder Drew Venit, a Widener commit, had 10 assists and 21 ground balls on his way to all-conference second-team accolades, and senior midfielder Scott Griffin will once again handle the majority of the faceoffs. Senior attack Zac Pilla and sophomore midfielder Ayden Okrem are other key returners offensively, while junior Luke Van Auken and senior Jordan Vinci also contribute in the midfield. The defense is led by juniors Brandon-Ashby Madalion and Pat O’Neill in front of sophomore goalie Antonio Rodriguez.
OUTLOOK: The Rams qualified for the playoffs and finished with a 9-6 record for their second winning season in a row. They’ll look to extend the streak to three with the dynamic Beers leading the charge.
HADDONFIELD BULLDAWGS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: A four-year varsity contributor, senior midfielder Aiden Blake has led Haddonfield in scoring each of the last two seasons and is primed for a huge final season. The Cornell commit had 42 goals, 11 assists and 87 ground balls last year to make the all-conference first team. Three allconference second-teamers are also back: sophomore midfielder Tommy Batson (six goals, six assists, 24 ground balls); junior defender Kyle Garstkiewicz (13 ground balls); and junior goalie Will Gramigna (68 saves). Blake will get support offensively from senior attack Max Norton (16 goals, six assists, 17 ground balls), junior attack Reece Purnell (six goals) and junior midfielder Jack DeVita (six goals, five assists). Senior Ben Nugent is an experienced defender in front of Gramigna. Other returners expected to have an impact are senior Jack Ward, juniors Aiden Bell and Quinn Richards and sophomore John McDonnell.
OUTLOOK: The Haddons have a star player in Blake and a talented supporting cast and will look to improve on last year’s 9-6 record.
KINGSWAY DRAGONS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Although Kingsway graduated all-South Jersey midfielder Joel Scerbo, there is still a solid foundation to build on. Senior attack Giovanni Marino had 38 goals and 12 assists in a breakout junior season to make the all-conference second team. He will continue his career at Wilmington along with senior attack Ricky Curiale, who added 12 goals and eight assists. Junior Nick Brennan and senior Stephen McLaughlin are other contributors on offense. Junior Nick Saporito made the all-conference second team and leads the defense along with seniors Avery Law and Matt Toner, who is committed to Stockton. Junior Joe Marino saw time in goal as a sophomore and will look to take over the position on a full-time basis. OUTLOOK: The Dragons were a much better team in the second half of the 2018 season than the first, as they went 4-4 down the stretch to finish with a 5-12 record. That included a close loss to Eastern in the first round of the playoffs. They hope to get off to a better start this spring under new head coach David Dominik.
LENAPE INDIANS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: All-state midfielder Zach Cole has moved on to St. Joseph’s University, and four other all-conference players also graduated, but Lenape will reload with a talented crop of returners. Junior attack Mason Bregman had 25 goals, 37 assists and 42 ground balls and senior goalie Rob Pensabene made 140 saves. Both made the all-conference first team. Senior midfielder Bryce Reece earned all-conference second-team honors, as he recorded a team-high 39 goals, 16 assists and 56 ground balls. Other returning playmakers are senior midfielder Will Mercado (14 goals, 16 assists) and sophomore midfielder Luke Cole (18 goals, 18 assists), Zach’s brother. Senior Matt Soutar is another key player in the midfield who should take over as the primary faceoff man. The defense in front of Pensabene is led by senior Matt Higgins and sophomore Brady Long. Junior Caleb Oswari is also expected to be an important piece of the defense, and other players looking to make an impact are juniors Hunter Lippincott, Kevin Yang and Nick Allen and sophomore Sean Kennedy.
OUTLOOK: The Indians’ 19-3 season featured their fifth straight appearance in the South Jersey Group IV final and they claimed the sectional title, finally ending their run in the state final. They will continue to set the bar high in 2019.
MOORESTOWN QUAKERS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Moorestown played a ton of juniors and sophomores last year on its way to the state final and those returners should greatly benefit from the experience. Senior attack Ben Cantwell leads the way after recording 38 goals and a team-high 31 assists to make the all-South Jersey first team. He has committed to UMass. Senior goalie Gene Martin, a Cornell recruit, had 132 saves and also made the all-South Jersey first team. Junior midfielder Shane Knobloch led the Quakers with 40 goals to go with 14 assists and earned all-South Jersey second-team honors. Junior midfielder Connor McDonough (28 goals, 22 assists) and junior attacks Sam Winkler (15 goals, 10 assists) and Pat Coleman (four goals) are other important pieces of the offense. Junior Chris Furz is a key player in the midfield who serves as Moorestown’s top faceoff man. Will Eigenrauch—who will continue his career at Catholic University—leads the defense with fellow senior Vinny Capraola. Other returners expected to contribute are juniors Dominic Gubitosi, Nick Gubitosi, Matthew Buckley, Colin Ginley, Jon Miller and Charles Schneider and sophomore Nick Cataline.
OUTLOOK: Last year was supposed to be a rebuilding one for the Quakers, but they went 16-6, claimed their third straight sectional championship and advanced to the state final. With a talented roster in place they should be in the mix for a state title again.
MOORESTOWN FRIENDS FOXES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Moorestown Friends suffered big losses to graduation, including leading scorer and primary faceoff specialist Larry Miles, so new leaders will have to emerge. Key seniors include defender Aidan Dennis and attack/midfielder Jordan Edelstein. Junior Cory Dennis had six goals last year and is a returning playmaker, while sophomore midfielders Adi Fox (12 goals, nine assists) and Carrington Mizelle (six goals) showed promise as rookies. Other returners hoping to have an impact are juniors Thomas Blanchard, Aiden Burke, Jack Bader and Miles Oglesby and sophomores Aidan Connolly, Aidan McManus and Sean Wiseman.
OUTLOOK: The Foxes went 5-11 last year and will look to build a foundation for the future behind their young core.
PAUL VI EAGLES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Junior attack Jack Freeland had a breakout season as a sophomore and is back to lead Paul VI. He led the Eagles with 36 goals and 23 assists and made the all- conference second team. Senior attack Jackson Price (seven goals) and junior attack Christian Klinger (six goals) will also be counted on to put the ball in the net, and Klinger could also become the faceoff specialist. Senior Robert Maraski is a four-year starter in goal and senior John Jablonski, an all-conference second-teamer, is an important defender in front of him. Other key returners are senior Josh Rivkind and junior Joe Volm, both long stick midfielders, and juniors Paul Dunn and Will Fagan, who will contribute as both long stick middies and close defenders.
OUTLOOK: The Eagles’ 8-9 season ended with a first-round loss in the playoffs. They have the potential to return to the postseason and contend for a winning record.
SENECA GOLDEN EAGLES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Seneca graduated all-American attack Ian Gray and several other top players, but there is still a talented nucleus in place. Senior midfielder Drew Gallagher had 16 goals, four assists and 49 ground balls on his way to all-conference first-team accolades. He will be a difference-maker at both ends of the field. Junior Luke Walker (23 goals, 11 assists, 21 ground balls) and senior Shawn O’Keefe (14 goals, 20 assists, 47 ground balls) will also be important contributors to the attack. Senior Zach Wade, an all-conference second-teamer, and junior Austin Endebrock are returning starters on defense in front of junior goalie Julius Sorino. Sophomore midfielder Ben Russell showed promise as a rookie and juniors Luke Leach, Anthony Russo and Steve Scanlon will take on bigger roles as upperclassmen.
OUTLOOK: After posting a 10-7 record and losing in the first round of the playoffs, the Golden Eagles expect to contend for a division title and are capable of making some noise in the postseason.
SHAWNEE RENEGADES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Shawnee is paced by a pair of dynamic scorers in junior midfielder Chris Lyons and senior attack Gavyn Wilson. Lyons had 40 goals—giving him 84 in two seasons—and also dished out 28 assists on his way to allconference first-team recognition. Wilson also tallied 40 goals to go with 22 assists. They will get help offensively from seniors Grant Pargas (13 goals, 11 assists) and Kyle Korchak (eight goals). Pargas will also handle faceoffs along with senior long stick middie Colin Dougherty. Senior Pat O’Hanlon is an important returner on defense and junior Sean Danks is a candidate to take over as the starting goalie. Other contributors are senior Dan Smith and juniors Jake Barnett, Dom Carbone, Cole DeSpirito and Ethan Smith.
OUTLOOK: The Renegades’ 16-4 record included wins over perennial powers Lenape and St. Augustine and they advanced to the sectional final for the second straight year before falling to Moorestown. They have a chance to be in contention for division and South Jersey titles this spring under new head coach Don Green.
WASHINGTON TOWNSHI P MINUTEMEN
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Washington Township returns a potent 1-2 punch in senior attack Dante Magliano and junior midfielder Gianluca Lockhart. Magliano had 27 goals, 20 assists and 34 ground balls last year to make the allconference second team. He will continue his career at Kean. Lockhart was second on the team with 29 goals and 81 ground balls and also handed out 13 assists. Junior midfielder Zach Grassi is another key returner who led the team with 150 ground balls and is the Minutemen’s faceoff specialist, while senior Albert Tobey and junior Nick Flamma are other playmakers. Senior Dylan Kreitzer (a Gwynedd Mercy commit) is back as the starting goalie and experienced defenders include seniors Sam Flamma (Gwynedd Mercy) and Christian Brown (Lycoming) and junior Gene Petruzzi. Sophomore long stick middie Kane Giloley saw time as a rookie and junior Harrison Rauh contributes in the midfield.
OUTLOOK: After posting a 7-13 record and reaching the sectional quarterfinals, the Minutemen expect to remain competitive behind Magliano and Lockhart.

GIRLS LACROSSE
BISHOP EUSTACE CRUSADERS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior attacks Veronika O’Donnell and Rachel Cardone will become rivals when they get to the next level, but they have one more season together and it should be a memorable one. O’Donnell— who will continue her career at The College of New Jersey—led the Crusaders with 44 goals and 60 draw controls last year to go with 11 assists. Cardone, a Rowan commit, was right behind her with 42 goals and 15 assists. Both made the all-conference first team for the second season in a row. Sammie Sorensen is another senior leader who was selected to the all-conference first team. She is the anchor of the defense and also contributed 11 goals and 13 assists. Junior midfielder Julia Gatelein, an all-conference second-teamer, had 24 goals, seven assists and 57 ground balls. Other contributors offensively are junior attack Sophia Cross and junior midfielder Elena Yates. Sophomore Megan Carter started in net as a rookie and veteran defenders include senior Olivia Ahart and junior Danielle Venuto. Other returners hoping to have an impact are seniors Lauren Monahan, Sydney Talerico, Madison Matt and Gab Cipparone; juniors Kat Hartman, Kaitlyn Klitchko and Charlie Wiecek; and sophomores Mia Trottie and Karoline Griffis.
OUTLOOK: The Crusaders’ 13-7 season in 2018 featured a share of the Olympic Conference National Division title and a berth in the sectional semifinals. More of the same can be expected this spring.
CAMDEN CATHOLIC FIGHTING IRISH
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior midfielder Brynn Eilbacher has found the net 90 times over the last two seasons, including 48 goals last year, and is looking forward to a huge final season at Camden Catholic. She also dished out 37 assists to earn all-South Jersey secondteam and all-conference first-team accolades. She has plenty of help offensively, as junior attack Kate Walsh (48 goals, five assists) and sophomore midfielder Devin Rybacki (47 goals, 13 assists) are returning all-conference second-teamers. The defense is also solid— senior goalie Brelyn Friedman, a three-year starter, and junior defender Julie Rosica both made the all-conference first team and senior defender Lynn Hardy was a second-teamer. Sophomore Olivia Eilbacher had 17 goals and 13 assists in a promising rookie season, and other contributors offensively are junior Natalie Berry and senior Erin Wheeler, who missed last season with a knee injury but has 49 career goals. Senior Alyssa Kolasa, junior Haley Mylotte and sophomore Brynn Levins will look to make an impact as well.
OUTLOOK: The Irish went 18-4, captured their second straight division championship and reached the sectional final for the second year in a row in 2018. They have high hopes again this spring.
CHEROKEE CHIEFS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Cherokee graduated seven all-conference players, including all-time leading scorer Gab Bodine, so the Chiefs clearly have some big shoes to fill. They remain strong in the midfield, however, with senior Jill Westerby (15 goals, five assists), junior Nicole Dilullo (24 goals, five assists) and sophomore Alex Kulinski (14 goals) all returning. Kulinski and Westerby, who is committed to Hartford, will also be key on draw controls in addition to scoring. Seniors Cassie Streb at midfield and Emily Kapanzhi on attack should help the Chiefs as well. Senior Kylie Cassidy will look to take over as the starting goalie and sophomore Grace Gilmore is expected to play a bigger role on defense as well.
OUTLOOK: The Chiefs’ 10-9 season ended with a close loss to Eastern in the sectional semifinals. They hope to remain competitive with a lot of new faces in the lineup.
CHERRY HILL EAST COUGARS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Leading scorer Elissa Cohen graduated, but Cherry Hill East has several returners who could emerge as the new go-to offensive player. Senior attack Julia Verna found the net 24 times last year, while senior midfielder Juliana Calalo had 18 goals and made the all-conference second team. Junior midfielder Julia Cutler is another playmaker who netted 17 goals. Other returners at attack and in the midfield are senior Mollie Ward, juniors Nicole Austin, Sydney Cicha and Aliza Kotzen and sophomores Lauren Ballay and Paige Miller. The defense lost several key players to graduation but senior Ellie Weinberg is an experienced returner and senior Ali Kueny is back as the starter in goal.
OUTLOOK: The Cougars have a promising crop of returners and it would not be surprising to see them improve on last year’s 4-16 record.
CHERRY HILL WEST LIONS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Cherry Hill West fielded a young squad in 2018 and many of those players are back in the fold, including six all-conference members. Leading the way is a pair of senior leaders who both made the all-conference first team: Kelsey Clauss and Gillian Peters. Clauss, an attack who is committed to Bloomsburg, paced the Lions with 59 goals and 25 assists and should be the focal point of the offense once again. Peters, who will continue her career at West Chester, contributed eight goals last year but is most valuable as the anchor of the defense. Sophomore midfielder Maddy Orefice had 47 goals and 13 assists to make the allconference first team, while sophomores Sophia Graffeo (34 goals, nine assists) and Maria Spiotto (18 goals, 10 assists) were selected to the second team as rookies. Junior goalie Gina Bellon, an all-conference second-teamer, had 152 saves and junior Katrina Vyzaniaris is a key defender in front of her. Stockton commit Meghan McGlinn and Keiser recruit Paige Tambussi are experienced seniors and junior Kerrigan Donnelly is another returning veteran. Abbie D’Ambra is yet another talented sophomore who contributed on varsity as a rookie, and two freshmen are expected to have an impact on the program right away this year.
OUTLOOK: The Lions went 11-9 with a playoff victory in their second straight winning season last spring. With so much talent returning, they expect to take another step this year.
CLEARVIEW PIONEERS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Clearview was hit hard by graduation, losing 10 players from its sectional championship team. The good news is the return of sophomore attack Hailey Russo, who had a sensational rookie campaign in which she had 85 goals and 22 assists to make the all-conference second team and all-South Jersey first team. Seniors Liz Bonomo, Makenzie Tumini and Ashley Slowicki are important pieces of the defense, and other senior leaders are attacks Hannah Specht and Daniella Leone and defender Julia Mortorano. Juniors expected to contribute are Kendall Hendricks, Miranda Gardina and Ava Graham. Sophomores Molly Green, Navaeh Deichert, Meghan Decker and Allie Palumbo hope to play bigger roles as well.
OUTLOOK: The 2018 season was one to remember for the Pioneers, as they went 15-7, claimed the second sectional title in program history and reached the Group IV state final. It will be difficult to match those accomplishments with so many spots to fill, but Clearview always seems to find a way to stay competitive.
EASTERN VIKINGS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Eastern brings back a terrific core led by junior midfielder Kara Heck, who made the all-South Jersey and all-conference first teams after scoring 53 goals to go with 32 assists, 36 ground balls and 61 draw controls as a sophomore. Seniors Dani Mlkvy and Tori Accardo are both poised for big final seasons before moving on to play college lacrosse together at Cincinnati. Mlkvy, a midfielder, had 36 goals, 20 assists, 63 ground balls and 127 draw controls to make the all-conference second team. Accardo, a standout at attack, added 35 goals and 24 assists. Senior Madison Cowdin, a Central Connecticut State recruit, is entering her fourth year as a starter and will anchor the defense in front of junior goalie Kelli McGroarty. Junior Marissa Robbins and sophomore Jenna Casole are additional playmakers on offense and other returners hoping to leave their mark are seniors Sophia Hernandez, Gianna Dina and McKenna Henry, juniors Theresa Schmus, Anacapri Slack and Emily Maute and sophomore Kaitlyn Henry.
OUTLOOK: The Vikings’ 17-2 record in 2018 featured a 10-0 mark in the Olympic Conference American Division and a second straight trip to the sectional final. Katie Lee—who led Eastern to its first sectional championship in 2017— stepped down after six seasons, but her successor will inherit a squad with a lot of returning talent and high expectations.
GLOUCESTER CATHOLIC RAMS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Gloucester Catholic lost 84 percent of its scoring to graduation or transfer so new go-to offensive players will have to emerge. Junior attack McKayla Labbree is a top candidate for the role after scoring six goals as a sophomore. Senior Meghan Lozuke and sophomores Olivia Versace and Savanna Snyder will also be counted on for putting the ball in the net. Sophomores Sophia Testa and Lauren Wethman are key players in the midfield and the defense is solid with senior Caitlin Lozuke and sophomores Carlie Anyzek, Kamryn McDonald and Giana Gollotto. Senior Jessica Stewart and junior Olivia Blome have experience in goal.
OUTLOOK: Losing their top two goal scorers is a challenge, but the Rams hope to overcome it and make strides as a program this spring under new head coach Liz Glassman-Amorosi, who has served as an assistant the last seven years.
HADDONFI ELD BULLDAWGS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: An outstanding nucleus is in place for Haddonfield, including five all-conference first-team selections and two all-South Jersey first-teamers. Sophomore attack McKenzie Blake made quite an impression in her rookie year, as she was third in South Jersey with 85 goals to go with 23 assists, 71 ground balls and 131 draw controls. Senior defender/midfielder Wayden Ay, a Georgetown commit, added 14 goals and was terrific at the other end of the field. Both Blake and Ay made the all-South Jersey and all-conference first teams. Senior attack Caroline Beckett (59 goals, 40 assists) and senior midfielder Ashley Campo (34 goals, team-high 58 assists) both made the all-conference first team and all-South Jersey second team. Beckett is headed to Catholic University and Campo’s career will continue at Rutgers. Senior midfielder Gabi Connor, a Gettysburg commit, is another major contributor who had 46 goals and 24 assists. Senior attack Brooke Fiannacca (16 goals), a Rochester recruit, and sophomore attack Emily Smart (16 goals) are other returning playmakers. The defense is led by seniors Elise Fiannacca (James Madison) and Natalie DePersia (Rowan), while sophomore Maya Feinstein will look to earn the starting goalie job. Other returners expected to contribute are seniors Natalie Naticchia and Sasha Feinstein, junior Grace Kegler and sophomores Keegan Douglas and Mia Rothstein.
OUTLOOK: Last season was one for the ages for the Bulldawgs. They not only repeated as sectional champions but also captured the program’s first-ever state title, advanced to the Tournament of Champions semifinals and finished with a 21-2 record, with both losses coming to Moorestown. They will set the bar high again in 2019.
KINGSWAY DRAGONS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Junior attack Hailey Phalines had 31 goals and seven assists on her way to all-conference first-team accolades last year and will look to spark the Kingsway offense. She will also be one of the Dragons’ top players on draw controls. Senior Hailey Ferry (11 goals) and juniors Sara Metheny (13 goals) and Emily Keene (10 goals, 10 assists) will also be key players offensively. Junior Nat Ivans and sophomore Megan Bennett return in the midfield and senior Sydney Coles—an allconference second-teamer the last two years— is the leader of the defense. Junior Liz Bennett and sophomore Olivia DeFusco are also experienced defenders, but a new starting goalie will have to emerge.
OUTLOOK: The Dragons went 6-12 and reached the sectional quarterfinals last year. With a solid core in place, they hope to make progress under new head coach Jennie Hara.
LENAPE INDIANS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: With the top four scorers from last year lost to graduation or transfer, Lenape will build around its defense, which has several key pieces returning. Leading the way is senior defender Caroline Barlow, who made the all-conference second team for anchoring the D and also contributing seven goals. She will continue her career at TCNJ. Senior FDU commit Kylie Bresley—who missed the majority of last season— returns as an asset on defense along with senior Erin Scioli and junior Caitlyn Harvey, and junior Gillian Cortese is back as the starting goalie. Senior midfielder Alexa Adelmann is the leading returning scorer after recording eight goals and five assists as a junior. Junior midfielders Lauren Dickson and Maggie Londregan, sophomore midfielder Allison Halfpenny and junior attack Mia Birney will also be counted on offensively. An extremely talented freshman class will be worth watching, as several rookies are expected to be varsity contributors. Gianna Monaco, Lena Neilson, Kylie McNamara and Lauren Conroy are a few to keep an eye on.
OUTLOOK: The Indians went 5-12 with a playoff victory during a rebuilding season in 2018. Many of their returners gained valuable varsity experience and it will be interesting to see how they progress this spring.
MOORESTOWN QUAKERS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: It’s a new era at Moorestown following the retirement of legendary coach Deanna Knobloch and her husband and assistant coach K.C. The Knoblochs turned Moorestown into the state’s premier program and one of the best in the country during their 27-year tenure, but they are leaving new coach Colleen Hancox with a talented roster. Senior midfielder Kayla Frank had 50 goals and 15 assists and led the Quakers with 71 draw controls last year to earn all-American and allSouth Jersey first-team accolades. She will continue her career at Virginia Tech. The defense is also in good shape with the return of senior defenders Delaney Lawler (all-American and all-South Jersey first team) and Julia Dalmass (all-South Jersey second team and committed to Elon) as well as senior goalie Logan Lillie (Northwestern). Returning starters Isa Arvelo (Williams) and Rylee Brown (UConn) will contribute on both ends of the field. Senior Ashley Nutt (23 goals, 27 assists, committed to Monmouth) is returning on attack and other offensive contributors include senior Janey Galski (11 goals, committed to Rutgers) and juniors Avery Jaffe (verbally committed to Maryland) and Julia Sullivan (verbally committed to Rutgers). Experienced players on defense are Madison Sever and Margaret Lawler. Senior goalies Emily Toft and Maddie Lucidi add depth in goal.
OUTLOOK: The Quakers returned to the peak of New Jersey lacrosse in 2018 after a three-year absence, as they went 23-2 with their 23rd state title and seventh Tournament of Champions crown. Although the program will look much different without the Knoblochs, expect Hancox to keep Moorestown among the top teams in the area. She is a former standout player in the program and was a highly successful coach in England before moving back to the area.
MOORESTOWN FRIENDS FOXES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Although all-time leading scorer Alexis Watson graduated, Moorestown Friends still has plenty of rea- sons to be excited about the upcoming season. Senior midfielder Meghan Roberts and junior midfielder Bella Runyan both made the all-Friends Schools League first team for the second consecutive year last season. Roberts had 42 goals and five assists and Runyan added 18 and 5, and both are strong on draw controls. Sophomore Madison Bouggess is coming off a terrific rookie season, as she had 25 goals and five assists to earn allleague honorable mention accolades. Junior Elizabeth Carter is back as the starting goalie and important players in front of her include junior Jasmine Phillips and seniors Kayla Golas and Micaela Coll. Other returners expected to contribute are seniors Kendall Connolly, Julianna DeNittis and Lauren Radack, junior Ella Hanamirian and sophomore Bella McCollister.
OUTLOOK: The Foxes were in just about every game they played last year and finished with an 8-8 record after falling in the sectional quarterfinals. With Roberts and Runyan leading a talented crop of returners, they will aim for a winning record.
PAUL VI EAGLES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Paul VI is paced by senior midfielder Payton Barr, an all-conference secondteamer who had 33 goals and seven assists last year despite sitting out the first 30 days of the season due to state transfer rules. Including her first two seasons at Kingsway, Barr enters her final campaign with 93 career goals and is poised for a big season before moving on to East Carolina. Senior Jarah Barquero, an all-conference firstteamer, is the anchor of the defense and added 12 goals last year. Joining Barr as offensive playmakers are senior Taylor Metz (15 goals), an all-conference second-teamer, senior Kaitlyn Burke (11 goals, six assists) and junior Lindsey Shannon (13 goals, 12 assists). Seniors Olivia Darley, Caroline Francesconi and Stephanie Leshko are key defenders in front of junior goalie Kirsten Nelson. Other contributors are seniors Meg Cirii and Isabelle Newman, juniors Madison Kelly and Ava Wilson and sophomore Gianna Conti.
OUTLOOK: The Eagles’ 9-9 season featured a playoff win and a loss in the sectional quarterfinals to eventual state champion Haddonfield. It will be exciting to see what a strong senior class can accomplish this spring.
SENECA GOLDEN EAGLES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Cassidy Spilis has been a difference-maker since the moment she stepped on the field as a freshman and she is poised to end her career at Seneca with a bang. The senior midfielder was seventh in the state with 100 goals last year while adding 24 assists, 49 ground balls and 137 draw controls to earn allSouth Jersey and all-conference first-team honors. A Rutgers commit, Spilis has 234 career goals. Senior Lindy Webb is another top-notch midfielder who had 54 goals, 20 assists, 47 ground balls and 66 draw controls to make the all-conference first team. She is headed to Arizona State. Other dangerous offensive players include junior attack Emily Ingram (35 goals, 27 assists) and senior attack Maddy Winch (12 goals, five assists, Rowan recruit)—who both made the all-conference second team—along with senior Annie Rollins (11 goals, nine assists, Bloomsburg recruit) and sophomore Devon Webb (21 goals, 15 assists). Seniors Rachel Dorn, an all-conference secondteamer, and Leah Siter, a Keiser University commit, lead the defense in front of junior goalie Jess Fullerton. Sophomores Olivia Quagliero and Regan Bednar showed potential as freshmen and other returners looking to have an impact are seniors Alivia Chaloupka and Kyla Gwaltney and junior Bridget Patterson.
OUTLOOK: The Golden Eagles’ 13-6 record in 2018 included their second straight undefeated mark in the Olympic Conference Patriot Division and a berth in the sectional semifinals. This has the makings for another successful season.
SHAWNEE RENEGADES
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Shawnee graduated its two leading scorers but is happy to welcome back one of the top goalies in the area. Senior Ashley Vernon made 180 saves as a junior to make the all-South Jersey and all-conference first teams. She will continue her career at East Carolina. Senior Kayla Lundberg, an all-conference first-teamer and Gettysburg commit, leads the defense in front of Vernon, and junior Emma Sears, a Bryant University commit, is another key returner on defense. Senior attack Lauren Jobes had 35 goals and five assists to make the all-conference second team. She will have support offensively from senior Meredith Farley (13 goals)—a Mary Washington recruit—and three sophomores who flashed potential as rookies: Jamie Carvin (13 goals), Abby Rennie (seven goals) and Maeci Moore (six goals). Other returners looking to play a big role are senior Kelsey Martin (a Catholic University commit), juniors Lauren Jones and Ava Stielau and sophomore Julie Cassidy.
OUTLOOK: The Renegades went 10-2 with a playoff victory down the stretch last year to rebound from a rough start and finish with a 13-7 record. They have the talent in place for another winning season.
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP MINUTEMAIDS
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Washington Township graduated several standouts, including all-time leading scorer Deanna Balsama, but a promising group of returners is ready to take over leadership of the team. Junior midfielder Hannah Schrader is a key player at both ends of the field; she had 32 goals and six assists last year to make the all-conference second team. Junior midfielder Ally Tobler found the net 30 times and other offensive playmakers are senior Erin Renshaw (17 goals, 15 assists) and juniors Gab Raspanti (18 goals) and Jennie Boyle (17 goals). Junior Jenna Gervasi returns as the starting goalie and experienced defenders are juniors Sophia Schiavo and Maddie Wernik and senior Talia Verrecchio. Other contributors are senior Amelia Alminde and sophomores Ellie Koerner and Rachel Lee.
OUTLOOK: The Minutemaids were competitive against some of the best teams in South Jersey and finished with an 8-11 record after reaching the sectional quarterfinals. They will again be a tough foe this spring and should contend for a winning season.
