Back to school is just around the corner, and with that comes another full year of news, accomplishments and so much more. But where does your local public high school stand going into the 2016-17 school year?

Check out these facts and figures for our area’s public schools, reviewing everything from SAT scores to graduation rates. We also dove into some fun facts, introduced you to notable alumni and shared some of the classes offered this year that make us kind of wish we could sit in and take notes. With the impressive numbers coming from across all three counties, it looks like this school year promises to be another stunner.

CHEROKEE

Interesting alumni: Cherokee alumni seem to have found success in the realm of performing arts. Singer and reality star Christina Grimmie—who passed away at the start of this summer—graduated in 2010, True Blood actress Brit Morgan walked with the class of 2005 and actor Richard Ruccolo—who co-starred on the hit sitcom Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place alongside Ryan Reynolds—graduated in 1990.

Fun fact: Cherry Hill East has done a fairly good job remaining level-headed despite its new-found celebrity. The school’s a capella group Stay Tuned was recently the star of a Lifetime channel reality show, Pitch Slapped, which pitted the group against Highlands Voices from North Jersey’s Northern Highlands Regional High.

Cool classes: Clearview students with a love of gaming can apply that hobby in the school’s video game design & programming courses, offered for all grades. There are also courses for journalism, cultural food education and even a full class in personal financial literacy.

Fun fact: Listed among their noteworthy alumni, which includes television host Kelly Ripa and Broadway star Julia Udine, Eastern’s athletics have earned a reputation for producing real talent. Class of 2013 football player Eli Apple was just drafted by the New York Giants, sisters Rachel and Sarah Dawson both played field hockey for Team USA, while class of 2014 athlete Tom Flacco turned down an offer from the Philadelphia Phillies out of high school to play football at Western Michigan.

Cool classes: Go deep into the history of your hometown with a brand new class on Haddonfield & The Great War, which teaches young minds about the historical significance of World War I in the town. Students can also dance the year away for the first time with two new physical education classes: dance repertory & composition and dance fitness.

KINGSWAY REGIONAL

Cool classes: Students can develop their love of reading through personal hobbies, thanks to classes like sports literature and science fiction literature. Meanwhile programs like literature of the Holocaust, journalistic writing and celebrating diversity are available for students interested in exploring new interests, and spark ideas for future majors.

MOORESTOWN
350 Bridgeboro Road, Moorestown

Interesting alumni: New Jersey Senator Diane Allen graduated in 1966 then went on to run the board of education, while class of 1959 graduate Dave Robinson took his talents outside of the state to play for the Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins, winning two Super Bowls before being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

SENECA
