The Burlington County Advisory Council on Women selected Mitchell-Williams for the Outstanding Women of Burlington County Award for her work to improve the community. As the associate dean for multicultural and community affairs at the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, she leads efforts to advance the health outreach and educational opportunities in the area.

Reed, an ROTC student at Cherokee, is headed to a three-day Military Order of World Wars (MOWW) Youth Leadership Conference this month at Valley Forge, Pa. Reed was chosen out of dozens of applications based on his extensive leadership experience with ROTC. While at the conference, which includes young leaders from six states, participants will study patriotic education and leadership/citizenship development experiences.

Walter, with the help of his parents and siblings, held collections at several local schools for baseball gloves and sports equipment to give to children in the Dominican Republic. He had learned that children there used milk cartons or other improvised items as baseball gloves and wanted to do something about it. His family spent their spring break earlier this month delivering the gloves in person.
Matthew Grosmick
Washington Township
Patients at Underwood Memorial Hospital have a little something to smile about, thanks to Grosmick, who hand-crafted more than 80 wooden games to donate to the pediatric ward and emergency department. The Washington Township sophomore created the puzzles and games as part of his Eagle Scout requirements and was rewarded with an official award ceremony in February, thanks to his many hours of volunteering.

This Voorhees Middle School student is helping to organize the Relay for Life walk-a-thon coming to Eastern High School in June. As captain for “Team Golden Hope,” Golden has been raising awareness at his school and in the community, and even met with the mayor in late March to kick off fundraising for the event.

Shawnee High School's Cohill doesn't stop his leadership when he steps off the lacrosse field: The senior also helps the community by volunteering at Faith Presbyterian Church and contributing to mission trips for those in need in Tennessee and Pennsylvania. He also volunteers for the Special Olympics and helps with Great Escape, a conference for middle school students at the University of Pittsburgh.

Miller collected more than 1,000 articles of clothing for the New Visions Homeless Day Shelter in Camden, and the donations are still coming in. This is the second clothing drive organized by the young teen; last year she collected roughly 1,000 pieces during her drive and she hopes to surpass that with her future efforts.

Lamielle was honored by the Camden County Freeholders with a 2012 County Freedom Medal for her efforts to promote environmental health in the area. After being housebound for years due to chemical sensitivity, Lamielle decided to advocate on behalf of others with mild to severe chemical sensitivity, by starting the National Center for Environmental Health Strategies in Voorhees, advocating for health and clean environments.

Hess, a sixth-grade student at Beck Middle School, was honored as a “Local Hometown Hero” for a fundraiser he created called “Jam for Japan,” which raised money to help earthquake victims. He was honored at a luncheon by the district and also received recognition from the Red Cross for his charitable contributions.
Zoey and Paris Atabek

Lenape High School student Zoey Atabek and her sister Paris went to Ghana in West Africa to deliver school and dental supplies to African students in desperate need. The two sisters were honored at a Mount Laurel council meeting for achieving their Gold Award in the process, the highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve.

This police officer organized a blood drive, sponsored by Officer Down Inc. and Mount Laurel FOP, to assist the Tezsla and Zdybel families of Chesterfield, whose families were devastated by a recent school bus accident.
Grace Baccare
Haddonfield
This Haddonfield Memorial High School sophomore launched a collection drive for gently worn prom dresses. She plans to donate the piles of fancy dresses to students at Gloucester City Junior-Senior High School (an Abbott district school) and Fairy Godmothers Inc., a national organization that collects and distributes low-cost dresses.
