Going South
Twelve students from Shawnee High School in Medford and 12 students from Seneca High School in Tabernacle (pictured) volunteered at the Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee, Fla., a resort dedicated to children with serious illnesses. The students helped entertain the children and their families, who were on vacations sponsored by groups like the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Walk This Way
The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation recognized Team Lenape Sugar Shakers with an award for being a top earning school team in the annual JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. All told, the team raised more than $1,500 for the cause.

Hoagies for a Cause
Students, teachers and staff of Washington Township High School and Orchard Valley Middle School presented a check for $30,000 to eight local families who are battling life-threatening diseases with large medical costs. The Helping Hands Hoagie Sale Committee, with the help of 300 volunteers, gathered on Super Bowl Sunday to make and sell 4,000 hoagies.

Winging It
Led by band director Julie Parker, students of the Chestnut Ridge Middle School band in Washington Township performed the national anthem before a crowd of thousands at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Their rendition kicked off a game for the Wings, Philadelphia’s professional lacrosse team.
