Our 2013 Winter Sports Preview is here to prepare you for yet another intense high school sports season ahead.
Wintertime in South Jersey can get quite dreary after the holidays thanks to short days, frigid temperatures and the looming threat of a snowstorm. But for fans of high school sports, this might just be the best time of year. Nothing beats a packed gym filled with screaming student sections as two basketball rivals go toe to toe; or the individual wrestling postseason, when grapplers of all sizes give everything they’ve got just to advance to the next weekend; or a steamy swimming pool in February, as perennial local powers battle for sectional titles.
Last year, our area again proved to be a breeding ground for successful winter athletes, producing a number of team and individual state champions along the way.
Although some of the names have changed, this winter season figures to be another exciting one filled with impressive accomplishments by established upperclassmen and up-and-coming stars. Suburban Family magazine gets it all started with our annual preview for boys and girls basketball, wrestling, and boys and girls swimming. The following is a look at some of the teams and athletes to watch in those sports from 17 area schools: Bishop Eustace, Camden Catholic, Cherokee, Cherry Hill East, Cherry Hill West, Clearview, Eastern, Gloucester Catholic, Haddonfield, Kingsway, Lenape, Moorestown, Moorestown Friends, Paul VI, Seneca, Shawnee and Washington Township.
