The coach of Flyers Skate Zone’s Team Comcast led his team to become the Midget 14U Champions at the Atlantic Youth Hockey League Championship on March 3 in Hackensack. This is a significant win for coach and team alike, as they have faced a rough season, coming together to support teammate Eric “Ebo” Eberling after he was diagnosed with cancer this year. This Cherokee coach was just named the Boys’ Cross Country Coach of the Year by the South Jersey Track Coaches Association. The award came as a surprise during a track association banquet this month.
Mike Ricci
Mount Laurel
Ricci’s Mount Laurel Striders, a children’s cross country program, competed for the first time at the Glassboro/ Browning Ross 10-Miler meet in Glassboro on Feb. 26. Though Ricci has coached the team for 22 years, this is their first year at the meet, and the seven youth runners all walked away with awards in their age groups.

Flocco and the Marlton Boys’ 12U Bulldogs soccer team celebrated a championship win at the Marlton Recreation Council Championship. The team captured a 2-0 win over Marlton’s Bad Boyz during a final match at the Cherokee High School pitch.
Adam Gerber
Moorestown
Moorestown youth baseball coach Gerber—also a professional poker player who has competed at the world level—isn’t slowing down in the off-season. He recently organized a town poker tournament to raise money for the town’s youth baseball leagues. The coach’s efforts raised $10,000, which will pay for maintenance for the town’s baseball facilities.

Russell’s Medford Memorial Middle School girls’ basketball team recently competed in the Camden County Elementary League Olympic Playoffs and placed second in the county.
Harvey McNeil
Washington Township
McNeil, the former Washington Township High School girls’ gymnastics coach, was inducted into the South Jersey Coaches Hall of Fame at a banquet on March 8. McNeil coached the team, which he started in 1975, for 27 years. During his time as coach, the team won 197 meets, with a state-record 54 consecutive wins, earning six conference, four South Jersey and two state public school titles.
Bob Querubin
Haddonfield
The Bulldogs’ boys’ swimming team, led by Querubin, went to the NJSIAA Meet of Champions early this month, where swimmers placed in the 200-yard medley, 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, and the team came second in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Kevin Silk
Voorhees
Silk, coach of the Flyers Youth Hockey Team, led his group of 8- to 10-year-old players to compete in the Squirt B President’s Day Tournament at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone at Voorhees in February. The team placed second, but will compete in another tournament later this month.
Bill Heverly
Haddonfield
Heverly is only in his first year of coaching Haddonfield’s wrestling program but already has led his team to a championship competition. His team won the Region 7 tournament, earning them a spot in the NJSIAA championships in Atlantic City in March.
Dave Allen
Cherry Hill
Allen, the Cherry Hill East’s boys’ basketball coach, became the school’s first coach in 30 years to lead the team to a sectional final. The team defeated Shawnee, a team that has beat them in the finals two years in a row, 52-42 on March 3.
John Valore
Cherry Hill
Cherry Hill East’s recently retired basketball coach and physical education teacher was honored by having the school’s court named after him. Valore coached at East for 43 years and was honored in front of hundreds of past students and coworkers during a special dedication ceremony.
