Rebecca Yermish
Marlton
Rebecca Yermish, a seventh-grader at Frances S. DeMasi Middle School, recently won top honors for an essay she submitted in the 2015 EngineerGirl national essay competition. Her essay was the winner among the sixth to eighth grade entries. The competition is sponsored by The National Academy of Engineering. Yermish won for her essay describing roles of design and manufacturing for the development of arrows used in archery.

Washington Township Third Graders
Washington Township
Third graders from across the township took a break from relaxing this summer to get their hands dirty. The students got together and harvested yellow and green squash at Duffield’s Farm Market. All of the squash the students harvested will be donated to Farmers Against Hunger. Duffield’s and Hurffville Elementary School Principal Jeff Pollack have been working together since 2001 to have the students participate in the annual harvest.

Kennedy Hubbard
Moorestown
Hubbard (pictured), a recent Moorestown High School graduate, teamed up with volunteers and the Moorestown Parks and Recreation Department in an effort to build two sand volleyball courts at Jeff Young Memorial Park. Hubbard was never allowed to participate in sports as a child due to lymphatic malformation, but was able to play volleyball all four years of high school. This was her way of giving back to the community.

Scarlet Kinsey and Victoria Zubrzycki
Haddonfield and Cherry Hill
Kinsey, of Haddonfield, and Zubrzycki, of Cherry Hill, recently attended the first New Jersey 4-H goLEAD Youth Leadership Institute. Kinsey and Zubrzycki were among 29 4-H members that represented 13 countries.
