The Quakers turned in a dominating performance at the SJISA Coaches Invitational, winning the B Division title for the third straight year. Moorestown set meet records in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. The Quakers also won the 400 free relay and took first in seven individual events.

NJ Panthers
South Jersey
The NJ Panthers, a flag football team consisting of eight freshmen from Cherry Hill West, Paul VI, Cinnaminson and Timber Creek high schools, recently competed at the NFL Flag Football National Championships, finishing in third. The Panthers qualified for nationals—held in Arlington, Texas, at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys—by winning a regional tournament in Jersey City. The team, coached by Tyron Tucker, has been practicing together since August and raised the funds it needed to travel to Texas.

Marlton Rec Council boys cross country team

The Marlton 11-12-year-old boys cross country team headed to Georgia in December to compete at the AAU National Cross Country Championships. The boys put together an impressive performance on the 3,000-meter course at Fort Gordon, Ga., finishing in eighth place in the country. The team consisted of Ethan Weschler, Christian Jimenez, Liam Duffy, Brett Shea, Chris Spisak and Dylan Odud.

The fifth-grade travel boys basketball team won its division at the Marlton Christmas Tournament with an impressive 3-1 record. The squad defeated Marlton in the championship game, 38-29, and also had wins over Washington Township and Delran.

Marlton Chiefs wrestling team

The Marlton club team, coached by Jerry Boland, recently claimed first place at the 2014 New Jersey Dual League Tournament held at Cherry Hill High School West. The top-seeded Chiefs toppled Seneca in the semifinals, 48-28, before rolling over Rancocas Valley in the final, 50-17. Gavin Boland, Cooper Pontelandolfo, Natty Lapinski and Ian Manahan all won by pin against Seneca. Lucas Lapinski and Jason Brown added pins against Rancocas Valley as the Chiefs won the first nine bouts en route to the title.

Cherry Hill Travel Team 6, a girls basketball squad coached by Ross Miller, captured first place in the Junior Girls East Division at the 4th Annual Marlton Chiefs Holiday Classic. The girls defeated travel teams from Marlton and Washington Township to secure the top spot.

The Bulldawgs, who won the South Jersey Group II title in the fall for their 11th straight sectional championship in cross country, are continuing to dominate in the winter. They added the S.J. Group I crown in indoor track, rolling to a convincing victory behind two first-place finishes by Shelby Cain. The senior won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, while Kaitlyn Bonnet took first in the 800 and Lauren Roberts won the 55-meter hurdles.

Winning never seems to get old for the Vikings, who overcame the graduation of several starters from 2012 to win the Tournament of Champions title for the third straight year and post their third straight undefeated season. A 3-0 win in the TOC final over Oak Knoll—the last team to beat Eastern, in the 2010 TOC final—capped a 26-0-1 season. The Vikings broke their own national record for goals in a season, with 235, and junior Austyn Cuneo set the national record for individual goals in a season with 96 while also passing the national career scoring record.

Facing the state’s top-ranked team in undefeated Washington Township didn’t faze the Pioneers, who earned a 1-0 upset win over the Minutemen in the South Jersey Group IV final to capture the first sectional championship in school history. Dane Gill scored the lone goal off a corner kick from Brett Milden, while goalie Ricky Nelson made 12 saves to notch the shutout.

This year put the Cherokee marching band on the map, as they shined in almost every competition they entered, including a second-place showing at the prestigious Yamaha Cup held at MetLife Stadium in October. The show, titled “Samurai: The Way of the Warrior,” follows male color guard member Paul Naidas after he comes back from the dead as the “Samurai Warrior” and encounters a variety of characters represented by different sections of the band.

Washington Township High School JROTC and Kitty Hawk Air Society
Washington Township
The Washington Township JROTC and Kitty Hawk Air Society teams had strong showings at the Central New Jersey All-Service JROTC Drill Competition in November. Competing against 14 other teams from New Jersey and Pennsylvania, WTHS took home trophies in six of the eight events it entered, including first place in the New Cadet Basic Drill. Township also placed second in the Unarmed Regulation Drill and the Armed Regulation Drill and third in the Academic Test, the Unarmed Inspection and the Unarmed Color Guard.

The Renegades pulled out the A Division title in the SJISA Coaches Invitational, holding off second-place Clearview by 15 points. Julianna Foss took home two individual firsts for Shawnee, while Kacie Dunham also won an event.
